Looking to get into PRS, need suggestions

Mission dictates gear. What is your overall goal. Are you trying to win every single match? Do you want to hunt with said rifle also, what’s your experience like? You could spend $900 on a rifle, $1500 on glass and the rest on ammo and slowly work up to that big custom rifle.

My LGS has a Savage 10T in a MDT chassis in 6.5 for $900 with a Diamondback(trash optic). You could start with that, try out PRS and see if you enjoy it. Then get the custom rifle made.

You mention $2k budget

Which happens to be the threshold for the production class.

So companies like MPA, badrock, GAP, etc make basically custom rifles for that $1999.99 price point.

You can’t build those rifles yourself for cheaper.

The Cronus is a solid scope that you will not grow out of for awhile

I want to be able to compete.

I've been shooting NRLX. I want move up to big boy rifles.

Another good option in your budget

2k for just the rifle or rifle and glass?

Probably need another 5k for training ammo, bags, bipod, weather meter, training barricades, .22 trainer....

I kid, I kid...sort of.

You’d honestly be dumb not to go with one of the production class rifles. It’s what they are for. you are basically getting a custom rifle cheaper then you could build it yourself.

And you literally won’t grow out of that rifle for years if you chose to stick with it.

I’m not sure what the other companies offer but MPA is offering even more calibers now too

Yeah sometimes i had wish i went that route first going in. Instead I spent 6,000 on my first rifle and couldn't shoot nearly as good as a $2,000 rifle!

Perfect! They are local to me!

If you like the ergos of a chassis, this is a killer deal. You would have a vey hard time building for this price.

Any hesitancy about the action manf on that gun?

$2500 for production. Now all the “production” rifles will start to cost $2500 instead of $1,999.

I think you have good advice here looking at one of the production class rifles. You will have a really nice set up once it’s topped with the Cronus. On a side note, I can vouch for MPA’s customer service. They have gone above and beyond, to help me and provide services that they could have charged for and didn’t.

MPA, GAP, etc. Amazing rifles. Wished I'd have saved up and got one instead of all my FrankenRifles....

Or if $2,500 breaks the bank, Tikka T3x Tac-A1 lefty in 6.5cm. I think this will come in under your budget. Also, keep your eye on the left-handed sales section in the Snipers Hide PX---always lots of goodies in there.

On a tight budget, a heavy barrel factory Howa in an Oryx chassis is a pretty solid shooter. There are soooo many good choices out there now without having to spend crazy money

There's some Savages and Ruger Precision Rifles out there too that would be well within your budget that based on the huge sample size here on the hide would be sub-moa steel bangers. I'm not sure which offer LH versions though...

A chassis that has the option to add or remove weights.

I was astounded how steady and low recoiling a nearly 30lb rifle is on a fortune cookie bag, IT'S a game change-uh. My old tech chassis was like a toy in comparison - head hanging low 🤪

I might be able to beat him in an offhand stage though, lol.
