Last Thursday my weimaraners got out of the house by accident and it was about 45 minutes before I realized they were gone. I found my 13 year old female, Val, in the alley behind my house. I didn't find my 4 year old male Geist. I looked for him from around 0740 until dark, driving 300+miles of residential streets to no avail. He got hit by a car and killed right after dark about a mile from the house. I had driven that road 15 times that day. What a kick in the balls.

Val, has been getting toward the end of life for a while now. She's 13 and had some tumors that I assume has invaded her gut. She hadn't eaten in 3 days and started throwing up blood last night. I put her down this morning and buried her next to Geist.

Its been a shitty week for me and the wife, sorry to vent, but I needed to write it down somewhere. Today is the first day we haven't had a dog in the house in over 13 years. It feels weird.

So sorry for your loss. Our critters are family. For the last couple of months I have been animal-less for the first time in 19 years and it sucks.

Sorry man. We lost our 4yr old GSP in November and it hit me way harder than I expected. As much as she drove me nuts it was hard to swallow. It hit my kids much, much harder. This past weekend we got two new puppies and it's been awesome to have dogs in the house again. I was worried this was going to be too soon, but I was wrong.

    Good luck.

Sorry man, that just plain sucks. Had to put down our 14 yr old border collie right at a year ago and although we recently got an awesome young black lab I still think about ole’ Bud every day. Hopefully the hurt recedes and the good memories shine through for y’all.

My dad got a weimaraner when he retired, she was his constant companion for twelve years. She was the first dog that was all his. She died before him and as cremated. When he passed two years ago he too was cremated. I put her ashes in his urn and interred them together per his wishes.

My condolences to you and your family, must really suck loosing both so close together.

In your other post, I did break down and tell the wife about Geist. As predicted she did cry, I'll tell her about Val when we get home, she will cry for Val. We are both sorry for your loss, I can't imagine how bad it must be. Prayers for you and both of your loved ones.

Beautiful dogs, love that pic of them on the couch. YOu're a good man, searching as you did. I'm sorry for your loss.
I'd still be out there if there was a chance to get him back. He was the best dog I've ever had, even though I only had him a few years. Both of them were truly part of the family. They lived in our house and slept in our bed. The house feels empty and is eerily quiet. I never noticed the ambient noise they created until now.

I'm sorry you're going through this. You've lost family members and it's tough.
I recognize the mast cell tumors, on Val. My Maximus had them. I spent a small fortune on having a dozen, or so removed. He lasted four more years, until they caused his spleen to rupture and I had to put him down. Hang in there.

There are no words to describe what you are feeling. I am so sorry for your loss. Coming up on a year since I lost my best buddy. Cherish the good times you had with them. Dogs are gifts from God.

I'm sorry for your loss. Dogs just don't live long enough. My Gordon Setter is going downhill fast and I dread making that gut wrenching decision. Hang in there, grieve for a while and then get a new pup. Prayers for you and your family.
