Gunsmithing Lothar Barrels

I am trying to put together a quick get it done rifle for deer season this year. Seems every year it comes down to last minute on em. So far I have McM Rem hunter stock, Rem 700 LA mag, Williams Bottom Metal, Talley rings/mounts, Leup VX3 4-14x40LR. I need a barrel to build a 300WM or 7mm Rem Mag, I was looking at brownells and they have the Lothar barrels in stock and thought about giving one a shot. Rifle will be used in Dec when I head home for X-mas I missed last year and the 3 years before I have killed deer with my yearly custom rifle. Previous rifles have made it to the range 3 times for load work and hunted with till I got a kill.

I did a search and figured I would go ahead and ask anyway. I thought about just buying a factory SPS to put into the McM stock, but already have the rifle that is chambered in 338 Win mag (rem 700 LA mag bolt), figured I would turn it into something useful

I use thier top shelf barrels very often, they are excellent.
Even the hunting grade barrels are fine for what you have in mind,

Banshee had one with on a Savage 10 in a McMillan HTG. It shot GREAT!

I bought a 1300 taper 7mm Lothar Walther 26" barrel blank from Brownells and built a 7mmRemMag rifle for the 2009 season.

The surface is polished very smooth. I made the thread cuts in .001" increments.
It never slipped in the 4 jaw gimbal.

I put it on a Braz 7mm Mauser VZ24 action.

I did not enjoy my one use of a Lothar barrel. It was for a
220 Swift Imp.. Good accuracy, but cleaning it was a 48 hr.
operation; more copper than the Anaconda Pit!!! Had the op-
portunity to test lots of cleanning methods and chemicals! One
shot, or ten, lots of copper to clean. Was working up loads and the long cleanning sessions finally got the better of me, and I bought a Lilja barrel. No longer do I spend all my money
on cleanning supplies from Sinclair.

I have a pair of their BR grade .260 Rem barrels, and am still working to bring my marksmanship up to a level that takes full advantage of their excellence. About 1500 rounds into the one I kept (my shooting partner has the other), copper has never been much of an issue. I don't think it would be until you start exploring much higher velocities.
