My seven year old has really taken to shooting, and I am getting him started early on the three-gun basics: a built-up 10/22 for "long-range" shooting, a P22 for a pistol, and an MP15-22 as an AR-style rifle. I'm interested in putting a low-powered variable scope on the MP15-22 - i.e. something in the 1-5 range. He will mostly use this in the 50-100 yard range, so I don't want anything too big, too heavy, or with too much magnification.
Choices obviously range from S&B's and other high-end optics down to pure "rimfire" scopes. Given that this will be on a .22, I don't want to break the bank by any means, but I would like something that tracks well, is clear, and is reliable.
Any thoughts or recommendations?
Thanks in advance for your help.
