Fixing to rebarrel a my 6.5 which is currently a m24 contour Bartlein. I’m thinking of goin to med Palma for a little better balance positional shooting. What’s everyone’s thoughts? Is the weight savings that significant? (24”) Is there a noticeable difference after a quick string of fire, say 10-12 rds in 90 sec? Anything I should be considering? Thanks

My first two rifles were m24 barrels. The next 4 were medium palma (or marksmen) I find the rifle to balance better and no difference in long strings of fire. The rifle I'm putting together now is gonna be another medium palma.

Agreed with above. 2 m24 barrels and about 4 med palma/marksman. I don't notice the weight difference but the balance is very noticeable.

my matches are 10rds in 90 sec and haven't seen any difference in accuracy.

I don't think the weight vs heat for a string of fire issue is really anything to consider, at least not for those contours.

I will say that between my heavy palma and rem varmint barrels I notice that the added weight at the end of the barrel adds a bit of stability for positional shooting. The lighter barrel is a bit more wobbly on target from a barricade. The weight difference will also affect recoil a bit. I think the Med Palma is going to be almost 1.5lb lighter than the M24.

Stock balance is a factor too. My Manners CF seems about right at Rem Varmint or Marksman contour. My MPA chassis feels really good with Heavy Palma. If I were ordering more blanks today it would be those options depending on which gun it was for.

I went from an m24/m40 contour to the Hawkhill marksman profile, and my next barrels are going to be MTU's. Weight only helps you in this game. For PRS type shooting, I haven't seen any advantage in lighter weight barrel profiles.

If this rifle is going to be more of a hunting or "do it all rig", then the lighter profile barrel would start showing it's benefits.

I’m 5’11” and 165lbs I’m in shape but not a gym rat. I prefer a heavier rifle over a lighter one. I’ve always run m24 contours but I also usually don’t run anything over 23”.

If going all out on a PRS type gun I would run a 26”-28” barrel in medium Palma but anything shorter I vote M24.

My current match setup (.308) is a 26" med palma on a Rem 700 in an MDT ESS chassis. It balances on barricades perfectly with the mag well pushed up against the barricade. However, as soon as you put a bag like a gamechanger underneath it, it becomes rear heavy. I'm currently getting another Rem 700 rebarelled (in 6mm Creed) with a 26" m24 contour and I think it will nicely shift the balance point a lil further ahead of the mag well and hence be more stable off a bag. The "Marksman" contour might be a nice happy medium?
