Gentlemen;
I am in the gathering phase of an M40 build. It looks like I have a correct serial number range, 6-digit Remington 700 action inbound. This brings up a problem with regards to the correct mount. Needless to say, the correct Redfield square-cornered mount is more rare than an honest politician. I understand Badger Ordnance made a run of repro mounts but, depending upon who you talk to, they may be out of the mounts to fit the early actions. This brings up an interesting question: what is the difference between a mid-1960s Redfield Jr. mount for a short action model 700 and a modern one? Can the newer ones be modified to correctly fit, or is it a bridge too far? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.
