Well being that the Marine Corps went the M40A5, I thought that I would build a rifle to my own specs as it has all the cool gizmo shit that I like such as a surefire suppressor and night vision capability. The things I don't really like is the 25" barrel length and I have always wanted to build a rifle on the Surgeon action.

Back in January I went to the Practical Marksmans Match held by Capt. Huskey down in Alabama, and I won the drawing prize rifle build from GA Precision. The build was suppose to use a McCree Precision Stock but I already had the A4 for my build plus all the other little cool stuff parts. George built me the following rifle and it shoots like a dream just like my other rifles built by the GAP crew, I believe that Matt is the actual smith who put her together. Thanks again for a great rifle!!

I mounted the S&B SSDS scope and got her zeroed in with my handloads and already shot her to 1000 this week. Looking forward to ASC this up coming weekend.

Re: M40A5

That is a beautiful weapon. I'd cream in my drawers just to put 5 rounds through a weapon like that.

Now, a couple of questions. 1) Is it still considered an M40A5 even if it has an A4 stock?

2) The night vision mount (I'm assuming for a PVS-22 or similar) is bedded into the stock, yes? So how the fuck do you remove the barreled action from the stock? Does the barrel just slide out of it?

yeah its still the m40a5, they didnt change the stocks just made it suppressor capable and added a few other little touchs such as the forward rail for NVDs. But the new M40A5 will still be set in a McM A4, i dont think they have been hitting line units as of yet though

The front rail top part comes off. Only the bottom part is bedded in the rifle.

Re: M40A5

I have handled surgeon actions before but I guess I just never paid attention until I got mine, and it is really super nice!! I am also not a big proponent of the big bolt handles but I really like the KMW knob.

As for the height of the scope over bore I have 2.0" the actual M40A5's are 2.1" don't know why the height of the uns rail would matter, it doesn't get in the way of the optic at all, it is pretty much level with the reciever rail. I am getting 2640fps out of it shooting a M118LR clone and it matches up to within .1 mil at 1000yds but that doesn't mean it matches up at any other yard lines. More to come, will post a range report later when I get some time, now I just need the suppressor!!

Re: M40A5

Thanks for that, based on pictures I kept coming up with 1.9" - 2.2"

I wasnt refering to the UNS rail, but where the scope rail contacts the front of the action.

Reason I was asking is I've been trying to duplicate sight height using other components.

Re: M40A5

Sean, whats up bro? awesome rifle!!! I definately am looking foward to a trip to come see you.I've acquired a few nice "toys" myself that need a good wringing out! Need to stretch their legs a little! I'm going to a 3 day Vickers class at the end of Oct. but after that, the schedule is clear.
