Has anybody asked about .223 bolt faces???

I’ve emailed them and sent them messages on Instagram and get no response.

(Word of mouth warning) I have a buddy with a line of communication to them and they said they would sell him one with a blank bolt face. I think a 223 BF at that price point would be a game changer for getting the action in the hands of more guys. Once you get one yoj have no doubt this thing is worthy of any build.

However, they don’t have a time frame because they’re so busy right now.

I’ve been talking with Jim (22lrmarksman) about this exact build and the Mack Bros action etc. This will be my first foray into precision bolt guns and while I know more money can always be spent, this thread has sold me on it as a starting point.

I wanted a solid platform to start on, to learn with, after shooting/competing with gas guns. Undecided on caliber; 6ARC is intriguing because I could replace my Valkyrie barrel in one of my gas guns with a 6ARC and have a pair...I could go with a long .223 once they’re available (currently competing with a 20” Proof barreled AR15 that’s doing really well). Just so many choices I haven’t quite narrowed it down.

Im hoping to pull the trigger on this thing after the Christmas season but I really like what I see in this thread. I’ll be checking back for more pics etc

If this is your first/only precision bolt gun, get a caliber with the standard bolt face. No reason to limit yourself if you only have one rifle.
Later get into the different stuff just to get something different.

I appreciate the insight and I’m still debating it...haven’t settled yet but I do like the idea of going with a long barreled .223 simply because I can shoot it in the same division I currently shoot in that’s got caliber restrictions and I’ve got a good stash of heavy .223s from the Valkyrie experiment lol

That’s just one of the thought processes behind this...again I’m still reading and going through the motions to make the best decision I can based on needs/abilities/intended budget/future changes etc

6.5gr bolt face would be nice. Make a great youth/wife deer rifle action imo. I'm waiting to see what they offer in future. Between this or a rem 700 opened up or another origin.

From the images available, I am going to say No.

The feed rails would have to be machined into the bottom of the receiver as seen on Rem 700 and Surgeon receivers.
I do not believe the McB has that option.

I am not qualified to speak for McBros. I was just putting in 2 cents based on observations of their images. If you were that close to purchasing, please contact them direct. They may have that option or possibly close to having it.

I was on Manners website and one of their action inlet options on the FlatTop stocks had "Mack Bros Evo LA" as an option.

Yes i had to inlet my Greyboe for the trigger hanger

The xmark pro trigger has the bolt release that interferes with the hanger. Trying to decide between a trigger tech special or a box n andy tacsport. Not in a hurry since I have a barrel on order from northland shooters that is expected to take 10-16 weeks.
Folks that put this action in a krg bravo, was there any issues fitting it in the bravo?

Yes, I had to notch my XLR chassis. I used an end mill bit with my drill press. It doesn’t need much material removed to get enough clearance. You can measure how much to take off. I should have taken a picture.

Between the special and the bix I would get the bix 8 days a week.
The diamond to the bix is a more equal comparison and I still like the bix more personally but I like my diamond just fine, you just can’t adjust anything in the triggertech.

I like single but some people like two and both are great. One isn’t better than the other, just your preference.

Received my Evo a couple days ago. I had gotten an email that said it was on backorder but it showed up at my FFL rather unexpectedly. Havn't spent a lot of time with it but first impressions are its a lot of value for $575.00 I like my Origins "better" but its hard to point to a particular reason other than they seem a bit smoother and I like the interchangeable bolt heads. For sure though there is zero reason to ever build on another Remington if paying someone to "true" it up. Don't have any particular build plans at the moment so I'll hang onto it for a bit. The only real negative I've got about it is that is mag feed only, no feed rails. To most folks that won't matter so thats more of a personal preference thing. I'm hoping these turn out to be consistent enough for someone to start offering prefits for them. Macbrothers has a sterling reputation so I would assume the machining to be first rate so I'm hoping thats an option in the future.

that’s the motivation I need

sticking with my Tactical division shooting, it was either try to max out a .223 Rem or just bump up to .308 and I think this, along with a long talk with a very experienced pro shooter has me convinced

There is a difference in counterbore diameter. A standard remage would need the counterbore diameter opened slightly

The few that come to mind: 1) You can swap out bolt heads on origin, 2) There are more prefits currently available for origin, 3) The Mack Bros does not have a 223 bolt head available.

I would bet that over time, you'll see more prefits for the Mack Bros. And it's worth noting that a bolt head for the Origin is $125, and the Origin is $250 more than the SS Evo. So an Origin and 2 bolt heads is only $200 less than two (2) complete SS Evo receivers.

Really happy with this evo!
Top three was 47 grains of RL15 with a 155 scenar.
Went in loaded six at 48 grains moved it down hit right made the correction and shot 5. Then loaded 5 and ran them over the magneto. Really happy the action is smooth and sexy.

I was all-in on getting at least two of these until I found out about having to take 0.015" off a barrel tenon to use a Remage prefit. If one doesn't own or have access to an endmill or have the tools in their shop it's a huge bummer.

The few local smiths in my area are all backed-up forever, even for something so easy, and in the "era of the prefit" having to go "custom" (and therefore deal with the "custom" lead time) instead of just grabbing an in-stock prefit is dumb as fuck, even if it was the best action ever.

The extra money for an Origin or a Nucleus or whatever is absolutely worth it in order to not have to deal with that nonsense IMO, saving a couple bucks isn't worth the headache.

BTW I'm not just saying this to be a jerk or whatever, I really dig the simplicity of the design and it looks like a great action.
