No, you did not misread Lowlight's post. He had difficulties reading Predator 6.5 mm monolithic projectiles with his unit. On the other hand, I had no difficulties reading .308 Predator rounds (made from the same material I assume). It may be an issue of the greater mass of the .308 round reading better, a difference in settings (mine was on the factory setting, which I have not changed since I got it), or something else entirely. I was merely mentioning this so that people will be aware the jury is still out on how well the unit works with monolithics.

Dude you rock! I love the Cliff Notes condensed version of threads that if am interested in.

The time you could have saved me before I read all 9,000 pages of the Stainless Tumbling Media thread... before I bought one.

I'm in the market for a chronograph and I am waiting to see how they do with new mount. Glad to see the company is addressing quality control concerns with the strap from the get go. Seems like a great product. </div></div>

I am definitely interested in getting one, but need to confirm if it will work with the brake on my 10BA-LE (vents to the sides but is a little long). Saw a post earlier in the string from a guy with a 110BA that said he was getting one but never saw a follow up as to the fit...

Since I am in San Diego and don't have to worry about using a can so the "original" version is probably OK for me. I was at Pala this afternoon shooting with my 10yo son (trying to teach him to spot for me, but he just wants to shoot the knock down targets on the .22 range)... Need to try and hook up with gstaylorg to check his out since we are so close.


Need the cliff notes at the beginning next time...

"Cliff notes" are a great idea for a thread with a ton of data like this one has, but occasionally something important can get lost in the reduced version, so I usually end up reading the novel, anyhow (LOL). Luky, I had mine out at Pala last Monday AM. I needed to chrono a load for a midrange match in Omaha this past weekend. Based on the MV I determined and the atmospheric conditions at the match, my elevation was dead on @ 600 yd. I did not need to change it by even a single 0.125 MOA click during the match. The MagnetoSpeed is a great piece of kit. That was the last match for me this year, so I'll probably take a break from shooting for a couple weeks or so, but after that, I'll likely be out at Pala for most of the "recreational" shoots at the LR line on the weekends. Shoot me a PM when you think you might be out at Pala. If I'm going to be there, I'll be happy to let you check out the chrono.

Yeah, I was in Shanghai last "Monday AM" (work)... Just got back Saturday afternoon and was going to shoot the long range match at Pala yesterday but my internal clock is all screwey and didn't get going till about 11am yesterday. So I took my son out for the Rec shooting after Sunday school (doing the lords work after all

). (I woke up at 2am today (after going to sleep ~8pm) and started reading this thread on my tablet till my wife woke up).

I need to load some more rounds and see when the next weekend open rec shooting will be. I work Mon-Fri so I try to plan the range trips when they are "open" and get there about noon right after the matches are done... (I was pretty happy yesterday with my new 175 SMK loads as I was hitting the swingers out to 771 yards but couldn't quite get it on the steel at 852 yards as the wind was blowing me left/right...) Look forward to meeting you in the future... Will send you a PM when I know.

The guys at MS are straight up and respond very quickly to E-mails. I queried them in reference to a strap which the hot gas from my brake cut a couple of months ago. Garet got back to me within a couple of hours. Last week I failed the infamous plastic buckle so I E-mailed about a replacement. Weston got back to me again in a few hours. The long and short of it was; they would replace the failed buckle at no charge or I could up grade to the new style for $20. A pleasure to do business with!

$100 dollars more for a "V2" model that pretty much just fixes bad design flaws from their first model. I was seriously considering one of these until I saw that. I'll stick to my CED M2

Maybe I'm missing something on their website... is there anything changed in the unit itself (controller, sensor platform, software, etc.) between v1 and v2? I see a fancy hard side case, more accessories, new clamping system... none of which are 'broken' on the one I have. I did order the v2 clamp/strap upgrade to have 'just in case', but I'm not really seeing anything mentioned about new features in the core system itself.

More strapping spacers to accommodate those of us that use cans and over sized diameter barrels. if not using cans I would suspect the original runs just fine.

I will say the new case is nice and will keep all the parts/pieces together in my range truck.

I'm with Monte on this one. The 1st gen. clamp is still performing perfectly and the original box is working just fine for trips to the range. YMMV.

I did the same as Monte just got a few new clamps. Cost was $20 ea. I anticipated that cost would rise so I got a few of the V1 models "just in case"

I've got the v1 from the first batch and I don't use a can. Only prob I had was with the clip. Got a new one with different spacers and haven't had a problem since.

I just noticed this thread. I am looking for a simple, but accurate chrono for my first one.

Definitely need it to work with suppressors, as most of the load development that is compelling me to finally buy a chrono is for my 300 BLK with AAC 762Sdn-6.

That said, it looks like a pretty significant price jump to get the V2, which I assume I'd want. For that kind of money, I could buy a top of the line standard chrono, which would print a ton of data, and I assume would be at least as accurate if not more accurate than this.

For those of you who have used good "regular" chrono's for awhile and have switched to this one, what do you think about the level of data you get from the MS? Is it plenty good enough? Is there any downside to the MS relative to regular chrono's?

I really love the idea of mounting to the barrel, cant see how anything could be simpler, but I want to know I am getting not only sufficiently accurate info, but enough of it. I am ready to buy something, and this is very interesting, but I wish for the additional money they had done more on the V2.

I have the V1 MS and havent had any problems with it. the sensors pick up every shot. when I was using a regular chrono they depend on lighting and can be off due to that, some days I couldnt even get my chrono to read or got diffrent readings with the same loads depending on if the sun was up or cloud cover.

Some good head to head comparison of accuracy is buried in the write up that address your questions. My biggest plus is not having to set up the tripod as a ton of ranges do not make this an easy task and the ones that do you have to keep it cold longer than normal target hanging.

As a long range shooter I have long since come to grips that all of our kit costs $$$$ so I buy once cry once

Yes, thanks. I think I have now read most of the thread and am likely going to order one in the next week.

I am just trying to make sure I order the right one. Not 100% clear on the exact differences between v1 and v2. I understand v2 has a better mount setup, but I am trying to determine if there are any other differences. Any software updates or anything?

I definitely want it to work with suppressors, and if I understand correctly, I need to buy v2. Shot them an email and will see what they say. Excellent thread and I will finish reading it tonight.

My V2 model arrived last week, and I took it to the range on Saturday to chronograph a couple of different rounds. The chronograph couldn't have been simpler to use, and the clamping system worked great to hold the sensor onto my titanium SAS 7.62 suppressor. POI shift was less than 0.2 mils at 100 yards, and the rifle grouped just as well with the sensor as without. The data matched my expectations based on barrel length and observed long-range performance of said rounds. Consider me a very happy customer!

Yes and no. They do not have any distributors at this time.

Also, in case anyone is confused, the V2 bayo sensor comes with the V2 cam strap so don't order it separately if you order the upgrade.

I'm pretty let down that I sunk $250 into this to find out I need to spend another $175 to fix problems that either a) should have been addressed before it went into production or b)shouldn't require such an investment.

I don't need my bayo sensor replaced, I just need $4 worth of rubber spacers and a $20 strap. Since Ill have to buy another sensor, though, Ill attempt to retrofit something myself first because $175 for $24 worth of parts is crap to be honest. There's a big difference between "buy once, cry once" and effectively buying twice. I don't prefer the latter.

I agree! I dont understand why they didnt just offer a spacer kit. That way those who bought the V1 model didnt need to pay another $175 for a new bayonet sensor and added spacers.

They could do a trade in program at the very least. They could give you a 75% refund towards the V2 then sell the trade in V1 at 80-90% and turn even more profit.... Until then, if you want to upgrade to the V2, I'll help one of you guys out by taking your V1 at a used price

I exchanged a few emails with Garet earlier today. Really nice guy, answered my questions in a professional manner. He explained that the V2 sensor is a newer, more robust design that offers a few upgrades to the V1. I personally think my V1 sensor is fine but you can take solace in getting a better sensor for your money.

Does any one know what causes the shift in point of impact? Is it because of the unit strapped to your barrel? or because of the gasses coming out of the muzzle and hiting the magnet?

This was discussed earlier in the thread. It seems to be pressure waves from the bullets passage over the spike. When they rotated the spike the bullet point of impact change also rotated to be opposite the spike. It was also noted that it seemed to be a consistent amount of shift so you could potentially shoot groups with the device attached to the barrel although it would have to screw with the harmonic balance... It would be cool if the sensors could be embedded into a tube that mounted like a can to avoid this issue...

I wish I had read this thread before buying one myself. I really like it and find that chrono testing at the local range is far more convenient, not having to wait for a ceasefire to setup/breakdown. But the POI shift makes it a bit of a headache when using it for load development.

You can't just add spacers to the V1 bayo to make it work with a suppressor. The V1 bayo deck is much closer to inline with the attachment portion of the bayo. The V2 bayo has a deck that is much higher than the attachment portion of the bayo, so you shim it with spacers to make it fit a barrel or use it as is for a 1.5" diameter suppressor.

Their site has the two bayo profiles, it's quite obvious why you need a new bayo.

I don't understand why POI shift would matter for load development. I've personally used a MagnetoSpeed during load development and found that my groups were the same size with or without it. I can adjust my scope after I find the group...

After reading of all the buckle problems others have had I have been real careful with mine... But apparently 40 degrees was to cold and one side could not handle it. So now the buckle/clasp is half broke...

I guess I will find out how good the customer service is.

its not POI shift that matters, because yes, you can simply adjust your scope. it is the harmonic response of the barrel that matters. however, I'm inclined to believe that the influence of the MS is minimal.

I have a gen 1 with an upgraded strap system.

I used it this past weekend on a DTA SRS 300wm and AR-10 in 308. It picked up every shot of the 20 or so I fired across it. I shot a 3/8" 3 shot group at 100 yards with the 300wm - it was just 1" or so high, pushed up by the bayo. I took the velocity and bullet data and dropped it into my Kestrel w/ATRAG and hit 3" high at 1000 yards.

I then engaged a clay pigeon on the berm behind the 1K yard line and took it out with two shots.

I guess my point is that the data you get is excellent. Doing load development with it just requires a couple of additional rounds to final zero after you take the bayo off. I showed up at the range 10 min after a cease fire and was testing ammo immediately while another group had to wait 20 min to set out their chronos and it took the RSO's help to get it all lined up.

I have the MagnetoSpeed V1.

I have literally never opened the box.

I e-mailed, asking them if there was some sort of trade-up program available to get the V2.

I do appreciate that they responded rather quickly, but the answer was nope, nada, nothing.

Kind of disappointing.
