Manners vs McMillan?

Re: Manners vs McMillan?

Black-X,

That looks like crap.
I can tell by the photo you posted that the hardware is mine. I would still like to know if it got out of here like that or the install was done by somebody else.

If that left here like that, then I screwed up. If so, I will patch it up at no charge and get it back to you ASAP. Can you give me some more info about the origin of the stock?

Re: Manners vs McMillan?

Terry,

I had my dealer order the stock from JWPrecision this past week since he has them in-stock.

I appreciate the offer to patch the stock up but I'd rather not have the downtime since I just got the stock and I'd rather not have to pay any additional shipping costs as well. These things cost enough as it is! I figure a quick hit of green/black paint won't make the hole stand out so bad so I may do that this week when I try my hand at skim bedding.

On a side note, I'm kind of wishing I had just bought an AICS instead.. With the overall condition of the McMillan, I'm just not impressed. I went to start sanding the bottom metal inlet a bit to get my bottom metal to fit correctly and found a small chip in the gelcoat. Not sure if or how I could have done it but whatever, I'll go ahead and sand it until the bottom metal fits and I'll live with the chip I suppose.

Thanks,

-X

Re: Manners vs McMillan?

No worries John, stuff happens and I'm not blaming you or Terry. I was just posting my experience with this McMillan stock as it seemed to fit this thread. My dealer didn't finger the stock as he gave me the sealed box. I don't know if everyone likes that out of their dealer but I do.

Besides, the deed is done as I've already lightly sanded the bottom metal opening and my hinged floorplate fits better and most importantly, now it opens. I may go ahead and paint the hole today as well.

I've got stuck with the short end of the stick before and I'm not going to cry about it. Just posting my recent experience with a second McMillan A-5 stock.

Thanks,

Re: Manners vs McMillan?

Black-X,

I can have UPS pick up the stock to get it here and back at no expense to you. Most of KY is 2day UPS zone from me. I can rework the area around the cheek piece hardware crossbolt and keep you from having to mess with it.

I seem to be the one responsible for that install. I apologize and will get it squared away for you if you like. J.W. Prec counts on McMillan to have a good product and counts on me to have the ACP hardware installed correctly and with good cosmetics.

You can let me know via PM or direct email if you would like to have this addressed.

Have a safe weekend.
Terry

Terry,

I didn't mean to ignore your post. I really appreciate it but I'll go as planned and hit it with a little paint this week and keep on livin'. Thanks for offering to take care of it and making it a priority.

If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. Still stands true to this day.

Re: Manners vs McMillan?

X, wow. Pretty tough couple of days it looks like. When I first got my KMW rifle the fit and finish was great. After useing for it's intended purpose it has been beaten to hell and back. Scratches and dings and dents all over it. I used to care about that. Now I'm just glad after all it's been through it still preforms great.

I know it sucks when you buy high dollar stuff and feel like it wasn't worth it. I used to worry about looks now I just worry about accuracy. If your rifles perform well just leave them alone and take second at the beauty contest and first at the shooting comp.

Good luck in your future purchases.

One last thing. At least all the vendors are stepping up and looking to help. No one is hiding. Good on all you sponsors.

Re: Manners vs McMillan?

A factory BDL? I'll take a look at our inletting program. I have not heard of any complaints about Remington bottom metal not fitting. I'll look into it. Thank you for letting me know.

Re: Manners vs McMillan?

I find myself in a smiliar situation...trying to decide between a McM A5 and a Manners T4A. It appears that the McM is a bit less expensive but after reading this thread, it sounds like the Manners might be a better stock.

Any updates to the issues with the McM stocks above?

Re: Manners vs McMillan?

i cannot comment on Manners, because i dont own any. my only experience is with McMillan, and am very pleased with them. like stated so many times above, you cannot go wrong with either.

Re: Manners vs McMillan?

I say Macmillan, I checked out the manners at the shot show they seem to be good, but I live about tem minutes from Mcmillan there customer service is good. They gave me a tour of the stock shop and the rifle shop. I have an a3-5 and an a5.

Ya they will have cosmetic blemishes, but are you planning using the rifle or building a safe qween? I understand you spend a lot of money, so you want it to look good, that's how I was at firs then I started using them and they get scratched and dented beat up. If you use the rifle as it was spost to be used its going to get beat up, but I know Macmillan stocks will last if not for ever a very long time.

Re: Manners vs McMillan?

I used a manners stock a d mcmillan. I like both and they have their pluses and minuses. I see it as a personally preference like ford vs chevy.

Necro incoming since almost 10 years have passed and I'm sure each company has made vast improvements. Still neck and neck or has one company taken a big lead?
