The do mourn. Sorry for your loss.

When we had to put down our male Mini Schnauzer our female Mini slept on the blanket he was put down on for over a week. She didn't want to leave it. The blanket didn't get washed for over a month. The funny thing is that she hated him. He carried a scar on his nose for 14 years where she bit him right after we found her. He wanted to play and she was antisocial, actually she was a bitch. Both were street pick-ups.
He was an incredible dog and I still miss him. My mother had Alzheimer's and he could tell when she was getting agitated. He would calm her down by laying across her lap like he was holding her down, so she could try to rub the hair off of him, all 20 pounds of him. You could instantly see her mood change.

Had to put my little buddy down today. I am so heartbroken. He was my favorite little asshole.

Rest In Peace Max. I will miss you every day

My Weimaraner laying on his little brothers bed and the blanket he was taken to the vet in this morning. Tell me they don’t mourn....

They do mourn. Just like they dream, and play, and all of the other recognizable behaviors.

It's good that you brought him back the blanket. If an at-home euthanasia is available (Lap-of-Love, or your vet to make a house call), then the other pets will have closure. If it happens somewhere else, even if you rub a bandana/handkerchief/towel on the passed animal, it will carry the scent. Bring that home to the other animals so they can smell it and understand.

Euthanasia is a compassionate gift we can give our best four-legged friends. Never easy to say goodbye, though.

Dogs most certainly do mourn. When we moved into this house we had two border collies (Buster and Skye), a Yorkie (Honey), and my little 9.5 pound terrier Casey. All are gone to the rainbow bridge now but Casey. Casey is a rescue and is between 15-17 years old, we never knew his real birth day. Casey has lost most of his teeth, had a small stroke and is mostly deaf, but he is still lively and a royal pain in the ass.....but he is MY pain in the ass. As long as he is happy and comfortable, I love having him around.

He mourned each one of the other three dogs when they passed. Each time one of our dogs died, it took him about two weeks to stop trying to tell us something is wrong, that the other dog isn't here any more ..you betcha they mourn.

Yeah, he had a rough day yesterday crying and whimpering looking all over for his little brother.

Yeah, my comment about my Jack being an asshole is true. Those that have had Jacks know what I mean. Too smart for his own good and a complete dick at times, lol. But that was who he was and I loved him for who he was.... like all difficult things it’ll pass. Just very sad for me and my daughter and now to see my Weimaraner going through it is difficult.

My big moose. Love this dude

Here are my girls:

KJ, my Husky/mut/cat/coyote mix

Then my lab/pit mix Lucy.

KJ is my wife’s dog she brought into the marriage and Lucy is mine I brought in. Initially they didn’t play too well together as Lucy had an aggressive temper towards other dogs. Now they go well together and play, bark at squirrels, and chase bees together all the time.

My golden retriever, Chloe. Got her when she was 1 and she passed at 13. Awesome dog

We got lucky and Chloe passed in her sleep one night. We now have a farm of animals, 2 dogs, 3 cats, 1 horse, and 5 chickens!!

My girl lost her big brother yesterday. He was only four, but a great cat. He was six months older than his sister and they were good buddies.

Last pic. Taken shortly before going to the vet for the last time.

And one of my favorites from when we went camping at Dowdy Lake. He was a hoot.

Our Heinz 58 pooch, George. Didn’t want another dog after we lost our last one but my wife wouldn’t take no for an answer. I must say he has been a blessing and a great companion. Loves to go hiking.

The last night of this hike it was freezing and he slept at our feet

By morning he had wiggled his way up to our head

George had never seen a toad before and apparently this one was saying “you shall not pass”. George gave it a very wide berth.

Recently became a dog person since my fiancee has a Shih-Tzu Poo (I know, it sounds redundant). He is a great puppy, even though he is now 12 years old. He doesn't bark at other people, or snarl at them. If anyone approaches him, he runs back to us. When he runs across the park he looks more like a rabbit loping across a field.
All the pictures of dogs here are great. Just thought I would post one I came across...
