An old picture that was given to me by my wife. It's actually on a digital (?) picture frame that rolls thru pics of Cowbell. We had to let her go in June of 2020, a large tumor on her spleen, which possibly could have been cancerous.....our vet came to the house and we said goodbye. I miss her terribly. But the bright side of the picture which needs some background....we were playing with a tennis ball in the house, it rarely got past her, but this time it rolled under the couch....so as I was trying to fish it out, she made sure I was putting forth maximum effort, and unbeknownst to me, Morbo, the cat at my left shoulder had come over to see what the hell was going on. I never knew he was there until my wife told me about it and pointed him out in the photo! Look at Cowbell's tail....like a whip! While I have always been a dog lover, I just can't bring myself to move forward with another dog. We all know the final outcome and I just hated the feeling of helplessness, feeling like I failed her.

Haha I have one of those beggars also! Started on the excavator as a pup and created a monster.
Brandy is use to it.
She's been my TBI service dog going on 10 years.
You'd think the excitement of going everywhere with me 24/7 would have worn off by now.
Nope.
Jeeps, golf carts, 4x4 trucks, ATVs even just in the car... she just wants to go riding.

This morning, as is our habit, Shiloh and I went to Starbucks for morning coffee and some breakfast. While there I ran into a friend from AA. Bob's a retired New Yorker, He's little older than I am, but younger than Le Boomer. We call him "Happy Bob" because he has the saddest, most morose demeaner of anybody you ever saw. Having said that, he's a nice guy.
Bob was leaning against the table next to mine while we were talking. Shiloh was moving around between us. Neither of us was paying much attention to her. All of a sudden Bob let out a strangulated squeal/scream and leap off the table in a panic. He was totally flustered and couldn't talk for a while.
It turns out that Bob had a small tear in his sweatpants. Shiloh took advantage of that to flick her tongue inside his pants to give his balls a lick.
Bob was acting victimized. Shiloh was smug and doing her doggy chuckles. I was breaking a sweat with the effort of not laughing my ass off.
I think Bob might need to go see a therapist. Preferably one who has a doll he can point at.

Probably the best pic of my boys. Lost Lenny a few years back to a brain tumor. Pretty sure this is the only pic I have of Gus thats not blurry. Went from one end of the dog spectrum to the other.
Lenny was the bulldog, Augustus is the GWP. I've lost amazing dogs too young. Gus and his best buddy Deets (a chocolate lab) will probably outlive us all. They're dicks.

Neighbor, my heart aches for you. It is never easy when they cross the Rainbow Bridge. Cherish the memories be open to others coming into your life. This comes from having many fur siblings come through my life, each has left their paw prints on the heat and are cherished for the time we shared.
Tough to say goodbye to a companion animal. I cannot imagine how much more difficult to a service dog.

Reason for Jeep work stoppage: I picked up a quad bike a while back, and have been playing around too much with that thing... but Brandy loved it so much. Then I just recently got back on 2 wheels after a 20+ year break.

Sorry bud. It's tough, especially so with those very special dogs we get once in a lifetime. I've buried 3 dogs now of my own and my sweet little Josie (pug) was brutal, she had been with me longer than my wife through some truly bad times. That said, when it's my boys time (my Akita in my sig pic), it's going to be time to stay away from me for a while. I know I won't ever get another one like him nor one that values my family and their security the way he does. I'm sorry that you have lost that and I hope it gets better sooner for you sir. Thats a fine looking companion right there.

Buck, 7 month Mini Aussie Shepherd (American Shep), slowly getting him trained up not to eat the chickens and differentiate the nice caged soon-to-be-taco rabbits from the bastard cottontails who eat my mint plants.
One day hope him and his progeny, if I can find a red merle female with his temperament, will start to work with sheep & goats when I get a bit bigger property.

Well crap.
There's a little dog that lives across the street that always runs loose. He likes to taunt Shiloh when she's tethered out front so she can be with my while I'm working on whatever. The little dogs like to prance around just beyond Shiloh's' reach. Kinda like he's going "neener neener neener...". Shiloh gets furious about that.
This afternoon while I was working on the Willys it happened again. But this time Shiloh's tether popped loose.
I yelled at Shiloh to stop, but she had lock and tone, and was beyond listening. She caught the dog in the middle of the street and began shaking it like a rat. She was going for the kill.
I grabbed Shiloh and tried to pull her back, but the little dog was caught up in what was left of Shiloh's tether and wasn't falling free. And Shiloh didn't want to quit. Before I knew it, I was tangled in the tether as well and fell onto the street with them. I got a good grip on Shiloh and was keeping her from doing any more damage when I felt the other dog's teeth sink into my left wrist. (I don't really fault it for that, he was scared and fighting for his life and didn't understand I was trying to save him.)
The dog also chewed up the arm of the guy who owns him. I don't know which of us got bit worse, but his arm was a lot bloodier.
In the aftermath, it looked like the dog had a chest muscle torn loose that was knotted up under the skin over his ribs. He's gonna be hurting for a while.
The dog's family are good people. I hope we can work through this.

Shit happens, growing up once in a while me and one of the neighborhood kids would get in a fight. You do your best to avoid things, but it happens anyway.

Even the most mellow dog will hit that point in teasing when....well they just snap.
You know one of those guys that seems to have a story about almost everything, I think that is me.
As a kid my aunt had a dog, I basically lived over there so I will say we from now on. We also had two siamese cats. These two ass holes are why I hate cats....but I am mellowing in my old age.
These cats are just jerks to the dogs, they are suppose to stay up stairs with a pretty cool gate my uncle made up, he was a hobby wood worker, but the cats just did what they wanted to do. They dog by this point would just eye them when they bounced from counter to counter, book case to TV, you know. If the cats got in more of an ass hole mood they would bounce back and forth over the dog, the dog would start to real low grrrr. You know dogs have different grrr's. This grrr is the I am going to rip every thing off your body and it will hurt the entire time, and I don't care what happens before during or after I will kill you quick and painfully. When the adults would hear that grrr they would get the cat and put it upstairs. Sometimes it would stay today it would not. I bet they relocated it three times.
The cat slipped and hit the floor, Mitten (I don't know how to type what we called her) think of starting to say the word mitten, then get punched in the stomach right after you get the M out...as close as I can get)
Cat hits the floor and the dog was on it quick as anything, huge fight lots of blood, this was a shorter long dog, bulldog, basset mix, very low very powerful. Very strong bite. Well the dog "won". It did require a visit to the emergency vet as the cat did scratch the dogs eye about in half. I can't imagine how bad that hurt, but she was very cool the ride there. The cat IIRC ended up in three different parts, I know basically ripped in half, with one leg in front of the fire place.
The girls went to their room and cried, my drunk mother went upstairs with the crying girls, My aunt took the dog to the vet, and my uncle and I cleaned up the mess. I guess I was around 10 at the time. It was gross but it really did not bother me. We put it all in a trash bag and put it out in the trash. No harsh cleaners on the wood floor, just soap and water. Not much blood on the wall. The other cat stayed upstairs after that on its own. I guess they are smart to some degree.
She was a fantastic dog, even after that with basically one eye, it was real cloudy after that, she was a force not to screw with. I told the story about her ground squirrel days.
Hope you guys all make it through this ok, the way I see it is your dog is secured the other is not. The other owner had to know that kind of action is not going to end with anything good. And is a reinforcement for not acceptable behavior.
