MDT Oryx Chassis

One last thing...I hope it's at least sometime in May.

Cannot confirm dates yet, but keep an eye out for them :)

Sorry if I missed this, but Are these available for back order?

None of the LA's are available for a pre-order yet, but everything on the list is back orderable! As far as I know, the only one currently out of stock is the Savage SA.

Glad to hear your interest! The Ruger American that is for pre-order on the Oryx Chassis Website is designed for AICS pattern mags. The XL Gen2 variant for the AR mags is brand new for us and if there is enough demand, there may be an inlet for the Oryx too?

Hey josh,

I have just a few questions! I know some chassis are a little fussy over mags, even if they are AICS. Does the oryx take magpul AICS mags no problem or have y’all noticed problems?

My other question is: the Ruger American Inletted chassis is supposed to ship early February. If I order before or on the first of February, will the chassis make it to me by the 1st of March???

Thanks in advance, and great job with this chassis!

Launch not the smoothest but very pleased with the product.

Can't wait to pair this with an MDT Ckye-Pod

This is a Tikka T3 chambered in 6.5CM with a 12 round non-binder plate mag installed - feeds fine (with this specific combo)

Hey @RJW6220 ! We have noticed that depending on the magwell geometry on some chassis (especially with the older design like we were using pre-2015 or so), they can be very temperamental and not work as intended. The Magpul AICS pattern mags were designed to fit and function with the R700 SA action footprint and can be picky when used with anything else. Magpul does say this on their website:

"While other rifle platforms, such as the Ruger American Rifle®, can be upgraded for use with AICS-spec bottom metal and magazines, the internal design features may present some feeding and reliability concerns when used with the standard PMAG 10 7.62 AC magazine in non-.308 based calibers. "

As for the shipping timeline, yes, if you were to order on 1 Feb, we should have a chassis to your door before 1 Mar. This is not a 100% guarantee, especially with government shutdowns and other issues with our website/shipping, but we should be able to get one to you!

Also @dntworry sorry to hear of the mess up on our end, but I am happy that you got everything built and ready to go! I am excited to see how it shoots.

@MDT_Josh are the cheek piece and recoil pad the same ones as on the skeleton stock? Same adjustability?

No. The cheek riser is the same, but you don't have the same side-to-side adjustment and you can only raise/lower it with the set screws included. Also, the buttpad is a little different and the LOP is adjusted through the use of spacers with are 0.250" thick for semi-fine adjustment. A little different to our SRS and SCS stocks from MDT.

Understood! I’m hoping that the magpul AICS mags I have work with this chassis as well as they work with the other their MDT chassis our club has! We have 2 weatherbys, and a savage 10ba that our club actually uses my mags for because they work so well in them!

I plan to order an oryx in ruger American SA on feb 1st! And if the universe permits, it will be heading to Nebraska March 8th for the Bighorn steel classic NRL March!

@MDT_Josh , any idea when other colors will be available? I like to look of the green but wouldn't mind one in the grey.

We should have the grey and FDE available soon! Looking like the side panels will be in stock in a few weeks.

Which of the AICS mags'. will fit the chassis using a .284 case?

Which action and caliber combo are you looking at building? If it's the .284 Win, then the only LA that we currently offer is the Howa 1500 LA, with more options to come soon! In which case, all LA actions will use the 3.715" magazines, except for the Tikka T3/x's.

@MDT_Josh do you know if any of the widened aftermarket mag releases would work with the oryx??

Unfortunately not. The only way to ensure that one of our ambidextrous magazine releases will work (or any other aftermarket ones for that matter) would be to remove material from either the chassis or latch.

@MDT_Josh do you know when the Howa SA chassis will be back in stock. Went to order one but the website says their backordered. Thanks.

No date yet, but they should be back in stock soon! We are doing runs as fast as we can :) The Savages sold quicker than we expected!

What is the timeframe of when the savage short actions will ship?
If you ordered one when they were in stock, it should already be on it's way! If you have backordered one, then allow for up to 4-6 weeks (but it will probably ship soon ;) )

REM 700 LA for a 25-284. Am I correct that the AICS 300WM 5 rd. mag will fit the chassis?

@MDT_Josh, can you please comment on the MDT Howa Mini magazine depicted here? They appear longer (higher capacity) than the Legacy Sports Mini magazines. Are these 10-round Grendel flavor? Can you provide the max internal OAL length, please?

That was a prototype magazine that we tried to get to work with the Howa mini, but unfortunately the program didn't go through. We may pick the project backup in the future but no word as of yet.

I have to quit looking at these before i order one. Thinking about getting one for a hunting build for my son, but don't need it done until next fall and have an order in for one of the NSS Bat actions so need to not splurge. Would love to get my hands on one to try out for sure though. Think that this will slow sales of the krg bravo, I know if this had been out a few months ago my matching nucleus builds for me and my boy would probably be in an oryx and not a bravo.

I did not think I would have to wait until Christmas. It's been two weeks and it had not shipped yet.?!!!
Hey just give em a call or email if you haven't yet concerning your order. I too was patiently waiting for quite a while and my order status on the website stayed at "processing". Emailed them at [email protected] with my order number and in very short order they replied telling me my payment was declined and told me to place another order that they'll try to ship it out the same day. So I did right away and then again waited patiently but my order status stayed at "processing". That was two days ago. Today I emailed again and they replied very quickly telling me my order DID ship out same day along with tracking number. Gonna have it in hand tomorrow. :) Great service guys...website just needs a bit more tweaking:)

Be patient my ass. The guy I ordered from said it would ship the first of last week. The guy I talked to at the end of last week said it would ship this week. If shipping is slow just tell me. Yes I would be unhappy. Jacking me around just makes me mad.

I am very sorry to hear about your issues with our shipping times and if you want, reach out to me and I will get you an updated timeline on your order. @Codiekfx400 is right that things have been slower around SHOT show with a reduced team in house, but it is still no excuse for us to not have accurate dates for you.

MDT Josh, what kind of recoil lug does this chassis have? A steel one or an aluminum one?

We ship all of our Tikka chassis with an upgraded, steel recoil lug that we machine in house. No need to reuse your OEM one or go out and buy someone else's ;)

3.715 long action only? No cip?

Yessir. This chassis only weighs in the neighborhood of 4.5 lb (say 5.5 lb with a full magazine) and we would not expect users to drop in a CIP length action. If it is something you're after however, feel free to let the team know at [email protected] and we'll see about getting them implemented!

The Tikka SA chassis that we (and others) make will not work with the T1x without modification to clear the magwell retaining screw, however, our LA chassis might (without modification). We are just waiting for our T1x to arrive to test this theory out :)

Have there been any further updates about the T1x? for the Oryx or any other MDT chassis?

Yes, we are working on getting the T1x into an MDT right now and should have something available soon on that front. As far as the Oryx goes, I am unsure on the inletting priority, however I am sure we will be announcing one for the Oryx shortly!
