Media portrayal of police brutality

The past week or so we have had a huge uproar in my state over police brutality. People shouting kill all cops, and garbage like that on local PD's facebbook page. It all steamed from what was reported by the media.

Here are some examples of the headlines:

I could go on and on with the headlines, they are all similar to these.

Well the video was released today, and this is what was on it.

The investigation is still under way by the OSBI, so we will see if these officers were in fact beating this man or not.

Yea maybe you should look at the video again. I doubt he had that much weight on him. Seems from the video that at best he had two guys on his torso, one holding his head down and two on his lower extremities. Don't make it sound like they were all sitting on his chest because as far as this video is concerned that isn't the case.

LEOs have a thankless job. 99.99% of them are only trying to help the general public, and with today's media, parents who do not discipline their kids, and everyone calling lawyers for every little thing they feel is done wrong to them, no has any respect any more.

I can say this...cooperate with what an LEO tell you to do and do not put yourself in this type of position. Pretty easy, huh?

With that being said, I have never been arrested. Not to say I have not been detained by an LEO who did not understand a situation at the time of their arrival. But remaining calm in that situation and letting the LEO perform their duties, I was quickly released with an unneeded apology. I understand what the LEOs face daily, and they should be paid a six figure salary for the crap they have to put up with along with the dangers.

My wife and 15 year old daughter have also been handcuffed due to an unknown situation with a reported stolen car (DMV re-issued us a license plate that had been reported stolen 6 years previously). Within 30 minutes, 10 different officers apologized and let them be on their way after investigating the issue and resolving who really owned the car (my wife).

I hold no ill will towards the LEOs, and support them in every way.

Those who get the Taser/pepper spray, etc. must be doing something to deserve it. Too bad the videographer did not catch the ENTIRE incident on tape, and too bad a police car-cam did not catch it either. I am sure there would be a lot more enlightened viewers.

I agree though that an in custody death is never a good thing. Nonetheless, someone brought this upon themselves though and most likely needlessly. I'm sure most of you have heard at one time or another how volatile domestics tend to be. One minute they're fighting each other and when the very people they call to diffuse the situation show up, they turn on them. This is most likely a prime example of that.

While a tragic situation all around, I'm glad that in this instance there is video proof that will serve to exonerate the officers from the medias accusations.

It sounds to me like some random person called the cops because the mother slapped the 19yo daughter.. My guess is the 19yo was being a 19yo and probably deserved a good healthy smack.. But sum ASS HOLE said you cant do that !!! and called the cops to a situation that most likely did not require police intervention to begin with.. It was most likely not abuse but good old fashion discipline. PEOPLE!! need more common sense.. I'm sure the father was not acting like the most reasonable person. He was probably already agitated with the current situation. Than the cops show up. I would be in a bad mood at that point as well. We will have to wait and see if there is any parking lot security cam footage. There is just.. There is just not enough info and the irresponsibility of the media and the general public need to be called into question instead of just having the cops bear the burden of this thing

There is no where near enough information for any one to draw a conclusion on it yet.

First off let me state I'm not a fan of the PD in Moore/Norman area.

I bet the man died from HOCM Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardio Myopathy; largest killer a student athletes. If you are going to resist arrest or being handcuffed for the safety of the officers, they are going to use what ever force they deem necessary to control the situation.

I am wondering what the families legal status is here in the U.S. is??? I'm betting they are not legal. Deport them, after apologizing that their father and husband was resiting arrest.


Lets wait for the Pathology report and all the video, and facts.... I'm sure its not just what was released. I'm betting they think the city of Moore will settle out of court just to make it go away.

It has been my experience that those that video their encounters with law enforcement are usually being confronted for illegal acts (certainly not always, see the open carry bait techniques).
There are other stories on a couple of websites concerning this encounter.
Apparently it all started with mom and daughter got into an argument. Mom slapped daughter.
One of them was storming off, Dad went to confront said party (not sure which).
At some point, LE was called for a domestic.
They roll up and it appears Dad is the aggressor.

Now, I will tell you that this is going to sound racist on the face, it is not. It is cultural, so please bear with me here.
Have any of you ever had to roll up on a situation with a hispanic male in front of their friends or family?
They are ALMOST always highly aggressive towards anyone that is attempting to intervene.
It is a machismo thing, were they must save face as they consider it disrespecting their authority or their manhood, it is real.
I have literally fought with guys that are yelling, screaming, threatening, calling you a pussy. As soon as the patrol car is out of earshot of their friends or family, it's all "yes, sir" "no, sir" even apologizing for their behavior.
But when they come at you, screaming profanities, jabbing their finger in you chest, you MUST act.

Anyway, I digress.
So the Po-Po gets called, what actually transpired, I don't know.
But the man is taken down, handcuffed, restrained until he quit fighting, then they sat him up.

Mom of course says the cops were beating him and kicking him when he was down. Her own video proves that is not the case.
Did anyone notice the professional demeanor of the officer trying to explain the situation?

This is a very unfortunate circumstance.
It could be one of several things.
It could have been a heart attack, it could have been positional or compression asphyxia or it could have been something else.

The state of Oklahoma issues the numbers of illegal immigrants who are using the School system.

The effect is bankrupting the Oklahoma School system trying to provide for students who's parents do not pay into the system for the education "State Taxes", and on top of that they are demanding Bilingual Teachers to educate these students.

Drive threw South OKC area that bumps into Moore. Drive threw South Tulsa. Many of these areas have super high crime rates and Spanish only spoken here areas.

I'm sorry; I have lived abroad a number of times and all the locals will tell you the same thing "IF YOUR GONNA LIVE HERE LEARN OUR LANGUAGE"! I'm just pointing out this little thing that seems to be a problem.

Yes there are people who break the law everyday by DUI either with booze or prescription meds. I have had to recover the bodies of people killed in these incidents. If they broke the law they need to be punish.
