Hey guys, it seems like ive seen someone talking about this before, but I cant find it.

Just "finished" a mega maten 308 build and the bolt catch wont hold the bolt back reliably. It holds it back at first and then if I even look at it, it releases. It is the bolt catch that came pre installed on the reciever set so I figured I wouldnt have to change anything. Also, im using a factory DPMS bcg. Have not shot it yet.

Any links to other threads or advise would be great. Thanks in advance.

What type spring and buffer are you using? Are you sure its catching the bolt itself and not the bolt carrier just behind the bolt lugs? You should not have to purchase an aftermarket bolt catch. Something else is going on.

Jp 308 spring and dpms rifle buffer (a2 buffer tube w/ prs). Have to check when I get home on the second question.

Thanks for the reply

If it does turn out to be the spring and buffer you could always take a look at slash's buffers. They specialize in extra heavy buffers and springs specific to the buffers. Hope you get it sorted out. The 10's can be a bitch to get running right sometimes.

I don't know if this will help, but I installed a UBR stock on mine and when I pulled the BCG back it would lock back on an empty mag, but not on the bcg catch. I finally figured out this was caused by the original buffer and spring that were slightly too long to work with the UBR, and so the bolt was not retracting far enough back to lock on the edge of the catch. I picked up a JP silent captured buffer spring set and all is well again.
