Methods to attach a PVS14 to a daytime rifle scope

Does anyone know of any methods of attaching a PVS14 to a daytime rifle scope other than these two adapters I found? Also, if anyone has actually used either of these, how effective were they, what problems did you encounter, etc.

I am well aware of the PVS-22/24/27 route, however that is not an option at this time.

I don't understand how this would work unless you unmounted your scope and moved it forward every time you wanted to use the PVS-14. That seems to defeat the purpose. Am I missing something?

These two adapters actually mount the scope to the eyepiece part of the scope. If you take a look at the two links it should be obvious how they work. Length of Pull would become an issue, but if you have an adjustable buttstock that might negate it.

Has anyone tried either of these? I would think that eye relief would be an issue since it appears that the NOD goes on the ocular and not objective side of the scope. Am I missing something? Or is it meant to be used with a long eye relief scope?

I have something similar from TNVC.com, and it works great. Have used pvs14 behind mark4 6.5-20 throughout the power range flawlessly. I am currently trying it out on nxs2.5-10x24.

Ha! That's funny! I just pulled the Duct Tape off that was holding my MUM to a broken helmet mount...Ugly, but it was effective for weeks worth of night time wanderings!

I have used the Monoloc for many years and have been very happy with it.

I like the fact that it adapts easily to different platforms [i.e. scopes/cameras/videaocams/rangefinder etc] with just a simple changeout of the rubber bushings.

you may run into the problem of the PVS14 being shut off when you fire a 556. We tried them on our M4s in country and couldnt get them to stay on for more than 2 or 3 rounds before they would shut off.

I have heard a monoloc works well with an extended rail and a us optics posi lock mount, attach the 14 and slide the scope forward with minimal change in poi.

I dont know what brand/model you have,We have No issue with 5.56/6.8spc or 6.5 grendel..All PVS14 stay on we have used..

BEFORE you use your PVS14 on a higher caliber weapon than your AR15, you need to know some specifications on your PVS14. In your PVS14 there is a MCP (Microchannel Plate) that has a photocathode that sits very close to it. Depending on how close or far away these 2 are will depend on your "HALO" effect. If you have your specification sheet for your tube, it will tell you what your "HALO" is. Mine is .94 which is good for using on a AR15. The higher the "HALO" # the closer the photocathode will sit next to the MCP (Microchannel Plate). If you end up using your PVS14 on a high caliber rifle like a .308, 30/06 etc your going to turn your $3500 night vision into a paper weight because the photocathode will slam into the MCP (Microchannel Plate) when the gun fires. Hope this helps!

I think I'll stick to using mine on a suppressed 10/22 with an Eotech. Here's my data sheet. There's 2 #s for the Halo so I can't call it.

Yours is a .82.. When you look through your NV, and you see a street light, your NV "blooms" alot right?
Someone correct me if Im wrong, but I have always heard that ITT does NOT give data sheets with their products.. It has something to do with ITAR.. So now Im wondering if your data sheet is legit, or if your dealer made one up? If he made one up, where did he get these #'s from?

I wasn't aware the ITT did not provide data sheets til recently, but the dealer is a good friend of mine and I KNOW he would not be involved in shenanigans of that type.

A well zeroed high quality IR laser is SOOOO much easier to use and no crazy mounting required. Just a suggestion from someone who has worn NVDs more than I care to.

+1 to that. The only way I'm mounting a NV optic to a rifle is the pvs-22 on a long range bolt gun. For everything else I'd rather use a IR laser and wear the NVD's on my helmet. Especially on a m-4

Yep, same here. Those front mounted ones are costly, but if you are gonna take shots that long they are the way to go.

A head mounted PVS 14 and a well zeroed PEQ-2A on an M4 and you can shoot targets out to 300m, no problem, and from the hip (well, tucked under the arm). That was the preferred way to do it if possible, more stable, didn't get in the way of the NOD's. Never tried it any further.

I used an old PVS-4 once and that SUCKED. I also used to put the PVS-14's behind the ACOG, but mounted to the helmet. The rifle was sort of canted. It worked, it got the job done, but not all that great. It would have been better mounted, but that would have caused other problems. For the ocassional shot though, it was okay.

Pretty sure someone in the unit did the 100mph tape rig, but to an M68. Got 'ya beat by 10 years at least there. I didn't see it myself, but I remember the bitching about it.

Yes I see this is a bumped old post, but I can run my 14s on a helmet and still see through the NF 2.5-10x32 for the further shots or if the PEQ2 washes out the yote.

LaRue Tactical makes a one-piece mount that holds an EOTech in front of a PVS-14. IIRC, they also make a model that allows the NV scope to be swung out of the way when not needed, i.e. if you moved into a well-lit area, etc.
