Mirage at 1000 yards, how does it affect your POI and full boil?

How do you combat it? Dial down magnification?

mirage is going to make your target appear higher than it actually is......therefore if you aim for the center of your target, you are going to shoot high.

dialing magnification down will help some....

what i typically do is hold low.....and i generally just do this by feel.....to the best of my knowledge, i dont know of any way to quantify the amount of mirage and then use that to adjust your hold (like you would do with wind)

so mirage shifts it vertically not horizontally?

in a straight boil. yes, it will only move vertically

if there is wind, the target can shift slightly left or right

Great article thank you very much. Explains, pretty much describes the types of misses I had at 1000 yards. Looks like my data was spot on.
I am used to shooting in WNY in fall and spring. Went out to Michigan and it was a whole another ball game.
