MK 12 Picture & Discussion Thread

Good to know, how accurate are they to the originals? I see they have the same twist rate but I am seeing them pictured with newer and older styled hand guards.
My PRI upper is Douglas 1-8. I think they were out of 1-7. But it’s been consistently sub MOA with AAC 77gr and 70gr TSX. I’ve not shot it for groups too often. Just one of those bewilderments with 5.56 in my mind like i want it to shoot like a bolt gun but know it isn’t that and that my windcall for that little projectile is always going to be the limiting factor at distance.

I guess one last question, Id like to shoot a few gas gun prs matches at a local range. Nothing serious but would like to not be totally outdated. Does the mk12 still hold up well compared to what else is available

The mk12 with a modern optic would hold up fine against other 5.56 gas guns.

Ordered a mod 0 from Midway. Planning to use a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10X42mm. Any suggestions on ring height?
I use the high a.r.m.s. 22 rings with my mod 0 ( 1.450) and the 1.54 with the mod 1.

Nx8 2.5-20 is far more useful than the 2.5-10.

I haven't shot my rifle much yet (damn weather).
But the first round out of the gun, with an unzeroed optic, using the 300 hold. Hit dead center on a gong at 300 using ball ammo.
Pretty excited to keep playing with this thing.

Shot the RECCE yesterday. Was pretty fucking cold, but I don’t think it was too much of a factor. The 69gr RMR bullets over 23.3 8208XBR were only grouping about 1.75”. With or without the Can.

77gr SMK over 24.4 RL15 was just under 1moa for five, and I only shot one group to make sure the larger groups with 69s wasn’t me. Not sure this rifle will be sub MOA at this point, which will be a first of the 7 we’ve built over the last few years.

Has no problems on IPSC out to 500 yards though, which was as far as I pushed it. Also, zerod the RMR at 100y for the first time. Going to try this for a bit and see how I like it. Will need to do some ready ups from 50 down to 7 yards and see how what my offsets look like.

Finally picked up my MK12 mod 0 clone manufactured by Oberland Arms in germany. As many original parts as possible used.

The can is from a swizz company called Acheron. Cant wait to shoot her this weekend🥰

You will like it, I promise.

Awesome rifle and the suppressor is gassy but also very quiet and it has virtally no zero shift.

I’ve always loved the look of a Mod 0 gen III, the one with the 18” barrel. So I was thinking of buying one from PRI (hopefully that’s a good place). I’m not real knowledgeable about ARs.

This one:

But:

1) I’m not sure how easy it would shoot clamped into a tripod because of the need to place the pic rail or Arca quite far forward from the magwell.

For those who do this, how well does it balance?

Pic for reference (it’s not the exact config I’m talking about, it’s a 16” I think, but you get the idea):

For example, once I get a bolt gun balanced on a tripod, they are a joy to shoot. If I can’t get a gun to balance, it’s more of a struggle. Heck, maybe there’s a pic or Arca rail that butts up against the barrel nut?

2) What if I ditch the idea of a pic or Arca clamp and instead use an RRS Vyce universal-type vise clamp?

But I’m sort of imagining that one shouldn’t squeeze at the stepped joint/barrel nut of the Gen III? Maybe squeezing a carbon fiber tube isn’t a great idea anyway?

Anyway, hopefully this an ok thread to ask this question.

Can't speak to pic/arca but I use my Gen II in a hog saddle and it shoots very nice from it. You may be able to get away with the pic location in your picture if you go balls deep and get the suppressor.

PRI is now the place to get complete uppers. They usethe correct Douglas barrels and the restis from PRI anyway.

LRT manufacturing makes an arca rail for PRI handguards.

I have the 15” handguard and they have been out of stock of that version for a long time so I cut down a JP arca rail to fit. The JP and PRI have the same OD so the rail sits well.

I have heard of a report of a carbon tube not doing well with compression forces, but there were some additional factors too.

Thanks for the report. The Gen II looks of uniform diameter all the way from the magwell to the end…where do you place the hog saddle? Like, does the saddle overlap the barrel nut and CF tube? Or do you just clamp the CF tube?

About the balance…perhaps the thick pic rail of the mk12 mod 0 will also add some weight up front.

I don’t think I’ll get the AEM5 cloner can as I have a flow-through RC3. I hate gas in the face. Hopefully I can figure out those different diameter gas tubes in order to tune it. That gas block is cool looking it would be a shame to replace it for an AGB.

Shooting 15.1 Reece (Bartlien from craddok, 2.5x10 NF, 77 SMK) 465 yards on a 8 inch plate. New PRS range in DFW, west of Fort Worth. Had a 12 MPH 2PM wind, took 2 shots to get on target and every one following that landed. (Tried to put the video on here to hear audio of the blaster, not sure if its gonna work).
Good looking rifle. I need to get mine put together but for what the urx2’s are bringing I’m tempted to sell it and go urx4 LOL

Badass rifle
How does it shoot at 100y?

I'd go for a clamp and call it good. I like clamps more than arca or pic rail for most situations.
