Re: MN member checking in!

Sometime we'll get togather and you fellas can shoot one of my 50's without a break, you'll never bitch about recoil again.

I'll try to get to ER on the 9th. I need to get out and shoot a match. What is it, F-Class only or can I shoot from a sling any/any

Re: MN member checking in!

I sure am boys. It's a beaut too. I still got some work to do on it. Did a little sanding today in the barrel channel. As it turns out, a MTU contour is friggin huge, who knew. Then some pillars and bedding. Still too poor for glass right now. Probably throw the millet on it for now. I'll get pics up after a while. It's been hell at work knowing this thing is at home and so close to being ready to shoot.

And big thanks to Marty for doing an exceptional job with the barrel, and at south of the border wages.lol

Re: MN member checking in!

Now if that damn Bauer Arms guy would get your dies in you could get reloading!

Hey Austan, shoot me a PM, I'm still to busy to be hanging around here full time again but will check in as I can...

Re: MN member checking in!

Kick ass, welcome to the site, us Minnesotan's have a sweet shooting setup year around, winter time we all participate in a long range competition that's held every three weeks in Princeton and Summer time the Elk River range is where its at. Anyway your not alone, there are a few guys that live close by.... Anyhow, welcome.........

Re: MN member checking in!

Thanks for the welcome. But alas, I have been out of the Corps for about eleven years and Monday or Tuesday (which ever day they get my bloodwork back) I take the oath again and then head to MP school then ship out in December for the A'Stan. But, when I get back from my deployment I will get together with you guys for some shooting!

Re: MN member checking in!

You might get a hold of 'hide member Jim Kobe. He lives in Bloomington.
I recently had a rifle built by him and also a bedding job a number of years ago.

Jim Kobe is his handle here.

I'll come over and teach her how to shoot Marty! I can see it now, "just aim at the big green combine right?", "Yep, aim for the cab and squeeze a round off to see if he is awake!"!!!!

Good fun!

Re: MN member checking in!

no problem...looked like you guys were having fun...hated to disturb you.

we still have to get together on a reloading project one of these days....have 223 and 243 brass piling-up. I need to find a load I can shoot from a 1:10 twist that will shoot well out to 1K and a 223 load that can do the same....

Re: MN member checking in!

Work has backed off enough now that I get to do some shooting and work on some rifle projects, today I'll go piss around on my 1000 yd range.......sorry guys, just had to rub it in.

Anyway back to working on brass.....

Re: MN member checking in!

Whats up fuckers? Im still alive...just busy...we should have another "Hang out weekend" Maybe bring a bit of brew?

Adam....may have some dough for ya soon....would like to get that scope mounted and bang off some rounds....

Anyone have a CHEAP scope that actually tracks? Need one for deer hunting this year....

Re: MN member checking in!

Sounds good Noah, might have to sell this fricken thing soon otherwise!

My deck will be finished soon, might have to have another Bauer Arms BBQ here... with some more brews and warmer weather this time though!

Re: MN member checking in!

well the 6.5x47 is fully operational. Took it down to Martys yesterday for bit of shooting. We had a perfect day for it. Almost no wind, as evident by my decent shooting. shot 600 first then out to 750ish-800 (not really sure).

A friend showed up in the evening, didn't mind the bullets flying over his head. I could almost taste the fresh backstraps, but alas, not time for shooting those yet.

Marty flung a few down range with the irons and damned if he didn't hit the target, more than once.

We then cruised over to the 1000 yard range. We were running out of daylight quckly so only got to shoot one group. This was my first time shooting at a grand but I think I did ok. 5 rounds measured 5 5/8". had to cut my group off the target to hang on the fridge, possibly frame it! not sure if I could do it again.

Re: MN member checking in!

Austan that was some fine shootin' yesterday. Your rifle really turned out nice too. We will have to do that again, the 27th looks good for me so far. Hopefully we can pry Marty away from the work and all head to the match.

Garrett.

Re: MN member checking in!

I just checked the range to the targets at home and we were at 770-774 yards. I'll go check the 1000+ for sure but I think we were at 1020-1030 on the final targets.

If we were at 1020 yards and the group is 5.625 if my math is correct that's about .526 MOA at 1000 and just going from memory we has some sub .6 MOA, groups on the 770 yd targets. I really think if we get the 6.5X47 jigged up solid and tracking well off the bench, 4" at 1000 is possiable. Not bad for some dumb farm kid on the turning lathe.

Just a little more load work on the 6BR and it'll be ready, then I'll put a scope on the match rifle and test it.

Re: MN member checking in!

That makes alot more sense. my numbers put me at 18.75 at 775 and 30 at 1025 so that fits the ranges perfectly. I added 2 minutes to last nights dope to put me centered for that target and shot at 100 today, I was exactly 30 high.

Forgot to add...yes I will be going to Eau Claire.

Re: MN member checking in!

I'll be gone this comeing weekend, 13-14 out in western Nebraska shooting a match, and on the 27-28 is the Eau Claire match.

Maybe on the 20-21 we can shoot here again.

I'll try to take some time and check 2 more loads on the 6BR and then I'll just settle on one and run with it. Hopeing early week to have all the rest of the parts for the .223AI so I can get started on it when spare time allows.

Re: MN member checking in!

Austan, I talked to Marty today, I won't be able to make the shoot at his place on the 21st, but should be ready to go for the next weekend in Eau Claire

I have the new Bi-pod almost all drawn up in Cadd and ready to be machined out, it will be a beast. Hope to get to the machine shop and start working next Tuesday night.

I might just make a Aluminum stock too, we will see how the bi-pod goes.

Oh, by chance do you have a copy of the ballistic program? I can't seem to find it.

Garrett.

Re: MN member checking in!

Garrett, I got the ballistic program link from longrange8541. Hopefully he will remember where he got it and repost the link here (or in a pm to you). I just got a new computer and don't even have it on here yet. this weekend I will set up the old one and copy a bunch of stuff over.

Re: MN member checking in!

Hey guys,

I made my quick pit stop in Duluth to find a house and settle the family, now I'm out here in Phoenix until early November.

I'm heading to Dillon later this week or early next week for a visit and I'm going to McMillan in a week or two to have them take a look at my M-86. I also had Smith Enterprise mount one of their mounts on my M-14 since I was here, and I'm going to get something mounted on it (hopefully) before leaving to dial it in.

I got a chance to shoot the McMillan at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility out here and it shot a 1/2" group at 200 yards with surplus M852. Not too shabby but there's not enough elevation in the scope I think for 1,000yds.

If anyone needs anything from McMillan (seriously, no free stocks!), Dillon, or anyone else down here, drop me a note.

I look forward to seeing you guys - after the thaw...
