Re: MN member checking in!

G'morning my brothers, I am a retired Veteran and I served from 88-05 in the USMC as a sniper/counter sniper 2/5 echoe. I am here for multiple reasons..One is to introduce myself, so hello and Orrah to all my veteran brothers.

Secondly and most importantly I am sad to bring some bad news about our fallen brother former Seal Team 3 member Chris Kyle. As most of you may know, Chris was world reknowned for his book "American Sniper"but to us he was more than just a successful author, he was true marksman and compatriot in arms.

Tragically Chris was shot and killed yesterday alledly by Eddie Ray Routh of Lancaster Texas while at a shooting range in Rough Creek Lodge Tx.

It is my personally sworn oath to warn all veterans, current, retired and otherwise to keep your heads on a swivel. We veterans, especially snipers, demolition and special forces in our background have been designated as domestic terrorist and targeted by DHS and those who empower them.

There have been orders by black Op to take down retired veteran snipers, squibbers and spec force personnel.

This is no conspiracy theory and I am praying for all of you to heed this post and to keep your heads on a swivel.. If you are already aware of all the bullshit that is going on then I need not say anymore.

I pray for Chris'soul and his family to find peace. This is another sorrowful day for yet another fallen brother in a time of WAR on our own doorstep.

Tread well my brothers.. remember..keep your heads on a swivel.. Semper Fi Oorah!

HEADS UP MN Shooters

It's not too late. This is all happening this week. These bills were not introduced until late last week, when they
were referred to the committees I have a schedule of
hearings posted on the GRRC website. There are also meetings of gun owners occurring at the capitol before each hearing. I've emailed every gun owner on my email roster.
You can forward what I sent to you to your email folks, and so on. Steve M.
PLEASE FORWARD AND SHARE THIS WITH EVERYONE ON YOUR PERSONAL EMAIL LIST THE MINNESOTA ATTACKS ON YOUR RIGHTS ARE FAR WORSE THAN THE FEDERAL ATTACKSAND THE TIME IS SHORT!It’s time for us to stand and be counted. Please come out to the capitol and make a strong showing for 2nd Amendment rights at one of the hearings! Schedule Feb 5 (Tues)- 10 am Room 10, State Office Building (Pro gun folks Gather in Room 400S at 8:30am) Feb 5 (Tues)- 6 pm Room 10, State Office Building (Plan to gather early – 4:30pm. look for further details) Feb 6 (Wed) – 10 am Room 10, State Office Building (Plan to gather early – 8:30am. look for further details) Feb 7
(Thurs) – 10 am Room 10, State Office Building (Plan to gather early – 8:30am. look for further details) Feb 7
(Thurs) – 6 pm Room 10, State Office Building (Plan to gather early – 4:30pm. look for further details) The
Bills:
H.F. 241: Assault Weapons Ban. Look carefully at the definition. Your Garand is now an assault weapon (> 7 rounds internal fixed magazine). After it takes effect, you have to move the weapon out of state, surrender it for destruction, render it inoperable, or register it! H.F.
240: Prove you’re sane! The sheriff may require you to get a letter from a doctor or psychiatrist to get a carry or transferee (purchase) permit H.F. 242: 10 round mag limit Must alter mag, surrender it for destruction, or move it out of state! H.F. 243: 7 round mag limit Must surrender it for destruction, or move it out of state! H.F. 237: All transfers to be done by FFL’s. All transfers reported to Police(line 7.8). Expands mental health loss of rights from court ordered commitment to just confinement. H.F. 238:
Felony to accidentally posses a firearm on school property.
It’s currently a misdemeanor for permit holders to unknowingly or mistakenly find themselves on school property. One should not lose firearms rights (felony) for a simple mistake. H.F. 239: Gross misdemeanor to remain after being asked to leave. Second offense is a felony. Currently, it’s a petty misdemeanor. As far as we know, NONE of these special tickets has ever been issued. This is an attempt to PUNISH permit holders and raise the potential loss of firearms rights. H.F. 242: Loss or theft reports, transferring to ineligible person A person convicted of these crimes made ineligible to possess a firearm.******************************************Make no mistake about it, right now Governor Mark Dayton and Barack Obama are on a war path to take away your right to keep and bear arms in Minnesota. You’ve heard their threats for weeks — but now the St. Paul gun-grabbers are acting. And they’re even bringing out the Washington bullies and some “pro-gun”
turncoats to help exploit tragedies and trample your Second Amendment rights.Authored by anti-gun St. Paul State Representative Alice Hausman, H.F. 241 would:*** Ban the sale, transfer, possession and manufacturing of ALL semiautomatic firearms with a det achable magazine and at least one“characteristic” — which means just about anything that makes a gun “look scary.”(This includes rifles AND
pistols!)*** Impose sweeping bans on pistols, rifles and shotguns that have “the capacity to accept” more than 7 rounds of ammunition;THIS INCLUDES YOUR GARAND RIFLE! *** Force current owners of ALL “grandfathered” weapons to undergo intrusive, redundant, ANNUAL background checksat their own expense;*** Force owners of ALL “grandfathered”
weapons to obtain permission to keep their guns by registering them annually with law enforcement;*** Force the confiscation of thousands of firearms to law enforcement.
Failure to comply could result in a SERIOUS FELONY $25,000 fine, five years in jail or both;*** Give local law enforcement a blank check to make up their own gun storage rules as they please, and;*** Give local law enforcement agencies vast new powers to bust down your door to make sure you are in compliance with all of their new, made up, “rules.”That’s right. This bill forces you to open up your door and let the police “inspect” your legally possessed firearm as they please. Now this isn’t surprising. After all, Governor Dayton vetoed a bill last year that would have prohibited him from confiscating your weapons in a state of emergency. Now, he is declaring that preverbal emergency by further cracking down on your right to keep and bear arms. And with the first DFL majority in two decades, anti-gunners like Governor Dayton, Mayor R.T. Rybak
, and State Rep. Hausman are going full speed ahead.
They’ve even recruited President Obama to kick off their gun-grab with a visit on Monday, who’s anti-gun agenda has all but earned him the blessing of the “Republican” Sheriff of Hennepin County, Rich Stanek.Worse, they’re going to try to ram this through th e House Public Safety committee beginning next Tuesday, February 5th at
10:00 AM.But… There is some good news.YOU can help put a stop to this nonsense. Here are three things you can do right
now:1.) Contact the members of the House Public Safety Finance and Policy committee.Urge them to reject H.F. 241
and all gun control immediately.Michael Paymar (DFL)

Chriss 55601,, Is there a place around Bemidji to shoot out to 1k? I am from Fosston and only have to shoot out to 600 yards and would really like to take it out further.

Sorry for the late response, but currently there isn't anywhere public to shoot out that far. Although there is talk of a public range in Bemidji being built, they have the land now they need the funds. In talking with the organizers, it looks like the long range will be the last to be built, as they're trying to get the buildings and parking lots done before they do much with the ranges...

Fellas,

I think it's time to start a serious effort to legalize suppressor ownership here in MN.

I'm aware that the current make up of our state government isn't ideal for this. If we take an honest look at the situation, it might take a year or two of grassroots action before we're even ready to introduce a bill, anyways. Simply finding a Republican with the guts to introduce a bill isn't going to work. There's work to be done on the ground first.

The fact that we can't own suppressors here is an absolute load of shit. There is little to no evidence to suggest that they pose any threat to public safety. One might argue that they could be used as a tool for poaching. I'd be interested in your thoughts on that.

I've mailed a donation to GOCRA and asked for their guidance and support. I encourage you guys to do the same.

I'm perfectly willing to spend a significant amount of my time on this. Anyone else? Let's start a conversation about how to spark a coordinated effort to get this done.

Agreed. No reason to not allow the law abiding to own. A sell point would be extra revenue generated for the state in permit fees. I would be interested in helping to start a letter of intent that includes, among other things

History cases of other states (where legal posession has existed for some time).
Safety
Legality

Projected state tax revenue, based on average of other states' fees.
Noise reduction for rifle range neighbors.

To MN Shooters who are interested in this - please keep adding to the idea pool here.

thanks

I would think the additional revenue would catch their attention, but how does one estimate that?
Poaching will happen regardless of suppressor legalization. Criminals are criminals and do what criminals do best.

Savages,

I agree with your comments on poaching. I would like to see suppressors legal for hunting activity. Simply going for the ability to use them for target shooting would also exclude many possible supporters. Mn is a state of hunters.

Jayman 10X,

Perhaps you could elaborate on what exactly a letter of intent is. I'm sure many here, like myself, are new to the game. Educate us.

It's simply a well reasoned letter explaining the need and how the people and state will benefit from the change. The idea is to describe a win-win scenario.

Hasn't the DNR and the police chiefs association been the hurdles in the past?

Current law.
609.66 DANGEROUS WEAPONS.
https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/?id=609.66

The following information is from here.
http://americansilencerassociation.com/

Benefits of Silencers
HEARING PROTECTION

According to OSHA, the threshold for a hearing safe impulse noise is 140 dB. Without hearing protection, exposure to any impulse noise over 140dB causes varying degrees of permanent noise induced hearing loss, which can also lead to tinnitus. Most well engineered silencers take the dB level of their host firearm below 140 dB, making those silencers effective primary hearing safety devices.
increased accuracy

One of the most common problems for shooters is decreased accuracy caused by flinching in anticipation of the firearms discharge and recoil. By containing the explosion at the muzzle, reducing recoil, and decreasing muzzle flip, silencers dramatically increase accuracy, especially among new and inexperienced shooters.

I haven't given much thought to the police chiefs ass., but I can see the DNR as being a major opponent of this if we try to include big game hunting.

I don't need anyone to tell me how badly tinnitus sucks. I have it. I can't remember what it was like to enjoy a moment of utter silence.

I think the key is in the safety for avoiding hearing impairment. It would be nice to get some MD's on board stating that it will help reduce hearing loss. On another note anyone around Duluth wanna sling some lead?

Yeah i'm waiting on the corn to come down, I can shoot 300yds right out my front door but that gets old real quick. I'm waiting on the Princeton shoots to start back up this winter, haven't been over there for a few years but i'm going to be able to make it this winter.

They do a fun match 1 Sunday a month where you shoot from 100-500yds on both bullseye and animal targets. Its a lot of fun for both beginners and more advanced shooters. There's lots of info on it somewhere in this thread.

As for a good riflesmith the only guy I use is located in ogilvie he's not computer savvy but does top notch work and has built some record setting benchrest rifles. If you want his info shoot me a pm.

Does anyone know if antelope come accross into MN often? My brother just spotted one about 5 miles east of Crookston today. First time I heard of them being this far East. And does anyone know if we can shoot them? The hunting regulation doesnt mention Antelope, would I be right to assume to treat them like coyotes? No license, no season, no bag limit.

You'd be in very big trouble because they are a big game species, though not native to mn, there is no season on them here and are therefore a no shoot critter. Call the dnr they'll tell you they aren't here and you can't shoot them ( just like they told me when I called about the wolf on my trail cam a few years ago) idiots.

Yep we were in 24. We also did some hunting in 23. It really helps to know the land. I have a buddy who is a surveyor in Gillette and he would take us around, he knows exactly where the property lines are and who the land belongs to. He even took us out to shoot some prairie dogs when we where out there.

I thought I'd post to this thread. I'm interest in connecting, hunting, shooting. Just recently got back into precision shooting (Army Infantry Desert Storm vet) and am currently building / tuning a .308 gas gun; a JP of course, I have to support my local businesses. I've been corresponding with some people from the FRPC regarding their Joe's and Pro's shoot (steel out to 600).

Gunstop in Excelsior, but that is in the cities Metro. If you ever do get to the Cities stop by the Gunstop, it is two stores in one. Gun store and a Reloading store. The reloading is run by John, he has an answern and recommendation, to every reloading question there is. You just have to get used to his sense of humor. A must stop for reloaders.

Is owner John back to the shop yet? He had a massive heart attack a few months back and haven't been down there for a while. I do know that in his absence fat John has been running things and if you think owner John's sense of humor is good you're in for a treat..laffin'

Gunstop on both sides of the store is by far worth seeing IMO though, one of the best shops in the state.

Time for some new toy porn!

Stiller Tac-30AW, 26" Brux 1-8" twist #5 Chambered in 6mm Super LR, JP AMCS Chassis, fed by 10rd Double stack-single feed Alpha type 1 mags.

Barrel is starting to come around at about 25rds fired the fouling has all but stopped, shot my first 300yd group with it today with some leftover ammo from another rifle I had in this chambering and managed about a 2" group (didn't measure) I think it would've been better but the wind was varying from 0 to 18mph very quickly.

hopefully with some load development it'll improve as my single shot 6SLR was pretty consistent in the .8-1.2" range @ 300.

Thanks, this is my second one. The first was built on a savage target action and although it was a performer I'm not a big fan of single shots. I took two antelope in Wyoming a couple weeks ago with the other one and the round performed great with a 105vld. Took the first one at 280ish and the next at 520yds. Both were DRT.

Anybody here have any recommendations for good gun stores to visit on the Western side of Minnesota?

I'm not gonna drive to the Cities and deal with that madness.

I know about Kjeergards in Lake Benton,SD.

But I'd like to hear of any stores worth an 1hr or so drive into MN.

North or South is fine.
Ahlmans in the Fairbault area, huge amount of guns 5000+
Cabelas just because you have to if you never been, Owatonna
Down by St . Peter or Worthington area is a custom gun smith shop but I do not remember the name, have not been there but want to visit it some day.
Troy
I forgot Scheels in Mankato, maybe they still have good selection
