Looking to get a higher end optic for starting out in PRS. I've always used MOA, but I'm noticing that most manufacturers don't have a nice MOA christmas tree reticle on their high end optics.

Nightforce only has the MOAR.
Bushnell doesn't even have an MOA option on the XRS II.
Kahles only has the MOAK.
S&B has the H37, but its insanely cluttered and I don't think I'd want that.
Vortex has nice options.

Is it time I finally switch to mils? Am I mitaken in thinking that I absolutely need a christmas tree reticle for PRS type shooting since sometimes holdovers are mandatory? Or am i missing some good MOA reticle options and I don't really need to switch?

You will be fine with MOA in matches if you are used to them. No need to switch. Moa and mils do the same thing and up to the shooter to know how to use them.

Look at Vortex scopes. They have moa versions with Christmas trees. You can find the Razor II on clearance now with the 2C moa and save a bunch and get a great scope.

That's a great value. I just picked one up for $1825 from Mile High. But for PRS, especially if your new, why not get the 2C mrad?

This is what I was leaning towards. I have a few Vortex's already, so I was hoping to mix it up a little bit and try another brand, but I keep landing back on Vortex. Might have to just stick with ol trusty!!

Because he has always used moa and is comfortable with it. No need to change. You do not have to use mils in PRS matches.
I agree.. I started with MOA and recently switched to MILs and havent noticed a huge difference. Shoot whatever your most comfortable with. I think your better off having a good understanding of both units, its easy enough to do a simple conversion if someone calls out MIL correction and your shooting MOA. Make it a point to spot your own shots and make your own adjustments rather than relying on information from others. With all that being said I do find it slightly easier to dial MILs and remember my Dope on multiple targets.

I'm considering switching just so that I'm not going against the grain for the rest of my shooting career. Seems silly to continue being the outcast when its easy enough to learn the new system. Any regrets or should I just take the plunge?

No regrets. You’ll have an advantage in understanding both units.

In the end get what you like, an KNOW how to operate. Lots of folks trash X brand, yet are not proving their Y brand is all that. Then you have others who are Vested in selling/pushing you to Z brand. Fishing an shooting have a lot in common once the rubber meets the road.

I thought about switching to MILS a few times over the years but since everyone around me uses MOA and I can get a MOA tree reticle in a scope like the RAZOR Gen 2 I have stayed with it. I don't compete so I don't need to use what everyone there uses. I have range wind cards built for most of the wind conditions that I find myself in., so I am good with what I have. Stick with what you are comfortable using and what those in your group uses.
