ihope this doesn't get turned into a to moly or not to moly thread, i choose to moly. for those that are thinking of it, this is how i go about it.....

1. ingredients - acetone, bullets, moly kit (comes with 2 tubs exposed lead and jacketed).

2. open bullet box, add to a small container with leak proof lid, add acetone half way. this bullet bath cleans off any manufacturing "schmutz" and helps moly adhere to bullet.

3. roll / gently shake bullets in container for a bit.

4. drain excess acetone using lid to hold back bullets.

5. put bullets on cloth, roll around / pat in cloth to help clean. any acetone will evaporate, air dry for a few minutes

6. set up tumbler - change tubs, mark one of the two tubs fmj or jacketed and the other exposed lead. this will help in not mixing them up. sparingly sprinkle in about a teaspoon of moly dust. you can reuse whatever is left over.

7. add bullets, put on lid turn tumbler on.

8. tumble for a few hours (very noisey) let tumbler sit for awhile to let the dust settle. take off lid remove bullets with gloved hand, tongs, or tweezers, place in another small container.

9. pass bullets back and forth between two small containers, this will knock off excess moly (acts like a coal breaker / seperator or a "screen" for top soil, rocks, etc.). dump excess moly that has fallen off back to tumbler. continue to "screen" bullets until no excess moly remains in bottom of container.

10. put bullets on rag, roll around / pat to get more excess moly dust off. at this point, whatever is going to adhere is going to, whatever doesn't is coming off.

That is a lot of work to moly bullets. I just toss mine in a empty 1lb powder container, with a little bit of moly and throw it into the vibratory case cleaner for about 45 minutes, clean off extra moly with rag and done. No need to clean the bullets, no need to run a separate tumbling bowl

You're right as far as I'm concerned. I moly coat most of the bullets I shoot. However, I have not done it in awhile. Now that 168 gr. Berger Moly's are up to $50 a hundred locally; I'm going back to it. On the otherhand, I could just do without it all-together.
