Myself and two friends were lucky enough to have drawn tags for the combination elk in Montana. We will be heading that way in Sept this will be my first big game hunt with a bow. I am open to any suggestions or tips that would make the trip that bit more enjoyable? My two friends are old hands at this but when you ask them what sort of things you should bring other than the usual the reply you know yourself, we will have two large tents and cooking equipment.

What are the weather conditions like on average in southwest Montana in Sept? Also is the wolf population good as I understand the conditions for the wolf hunt will be announced in Aug. I am based in Germany at the moment and will be leaving here and flying there so I will have about two days to gather my equipment. The good thing is I have my bow with me and no shortage of practice with it. Thanks again.

I live in Hamilton, MT (hour south if Missoula). Our weather last Sept was in the 70s in the valley and about 10-15 degrees lower at altitude. Plan for rain and snow just incase of course. People have been fairly successful with wolf tags since they came available.
