Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

In her infinite wisdom, the governor of New Mexico has decided to continue mandatory quarantine order and various other public health orders through at least the 18th of September. Thus, our final Sporting Rifle Match for 2020 is cancelled.

That said, we are planning a full calendar of matches for the 2021 season including a new Saturday .22 rimfire match. We can’t say much about it yet except that it will be a field style match with most targets 50-200 yards or so with a few a bit longer just to make for a little more fun. When we figure out the details we will post them here. The AR match, which has not drawn enough interest, will be discontinued. The Magnum Match is planned to continue at a new venue next year, but we and the Whittington Center staff are still working on finding a new site. Of course, the Sunday Sporting Rifle Matches will continue in the same numbers and format. And finally, the Team Match is planned for the middle of August in 2021.

Once the proposed schedule is approved by TWC, we will post it here as well.

Hopefully, we will get to shoot a bit more next year.

Our first 22 Rimfire match will be on Saturday, 4/3 before our regular April Match.

The Rimfire Match is a “field style” match very similar the regular Sporting Rifle Match. The major differences are that the target ranges and distances between shooting positions are shorter and only .22 rimfire firearms are allowed.

The match format is 6-8 stages with minimal walking between stages. Each stage has 5 targets at varying distances in natural terrain. Each target is to be engaged twice. Target distances are known to the shooter and will vary from 50 to 200 yards on most stages and 50 to 400 yards on one stage.

We've finally found a new venue for the Magnum Matches that will likely result in some changes to the schedule currently on the website. We are working through potential changes with the Whittington Center staff and hope to be able to announce something soon. No changes to the regular Spoting Rifle Match, but both the Rimfire and Magnum Matches could be affected. Keep an eye on the website for news.

For this weekends match we are moving the start time back one hour to 9AM.

Sign in will be available from 7:45 – 8:15 AM on Sunday.

At 8:45 AM the gate will be locked and the mandatory shooter’s meeting starts. The match will begin at 9:00 AM.

Awesome experience to shoot this match, so much to learn. Weather was a tidbit nipply but hey what can you do.

Thanks again to all the people that helped make it possible (the Steves, the Mikes, yada yada).

Next time I'll have to make the long drive I guess and add some other stops along the way

Yesterdays match was challenging! And a lot of fun as always!

See ya next month

Very windy yesterday and my dope fell apart after 600 yards. Probably should've used the FPS my MagnetoSpeed showed after sighting in and gathering dope on the practice range.

Real shitty day for me. Got a call between the 2nd to last stage and last stage, Stage 8 for me, that my mother had fallen and couldn't get up. No jokes please. Headed home only to find the ambulance and fire trucks outside her house after she had been initially released, only to fall again trying to get into the house after returning from her first trip to the hospital. Kinda livid with my stepfather as he seems to do nothing to help her. And told my wife he 'might' have to hire someone to look after her. This after she took care of him during COVID with his typical BS.

I've only been able to shoot one SRM this year due to my new work schedule. REALLY missing the rimfire match. It is superb. And I 'think' I got my 6GT dialed in pretty well too. But don't think I'll be able to make any of them. NOT happy about that. I gave notice nearly two weeks ago but they talked me into staying last week. So...
