I hear ya man, I had to bow out of the August match due to work. Be there in September though! That'll be a great practice session right before hunting season. Such a cool match.

I shot my new 6GT in todays match and it was absolutely great. The 260 just might get a rest for awhile. Today was a little warm, but wind conditions were mild and we were able to finish up and be on the way home by 2:15. With the Wuhan virus, gas prices, component shortages, etc., it's very easy to get a spot in the SRM matches now. The Team Match is in 2 weeks and is the best match of the year (IMHO). After that there's only the September matches (Rimfire and regular SRM) due to the Whittington Center's "quiet time" before elk season.I've only been able to shoot one SRM this year due to my new work schedule. REALLY missing the rimfire match. It is superb. And I 'think' I got my 6GT dialed in pretty well too.
Thanks for putting on such a great and well organized match for so long.Registration for the first match of the year on February 4, is now open open on Practiscore.

We have sight in targets from 240 to 885 yards. We do have a target stand at 100 yards that shooters can put up paper before the range goesIs there a sight in board there now? When I went in May last year to prep for the pro match the following weekend there wasn’t a sight in board.
I have no idea why, but I like the change. It makes it a little more obvious what the style of match is. In the years since the match started it seems "sporting rifle" has become synonymous with AR-15's and Precision Rifle has become the most common wordage to the long distance/small target/mostly bolt action rifle shooting that the SRM format is.Why is the name of the match changing for the 2025 season?
Hopefully the match will get a little more new shooter friendly.
I have seen lots of new shooters roll in and never come back.
10-15 years ago we had 50-75 shooters every match. The day after RM3G usually peaked around 75-85.
And maybe the new MD will let outlaw division shooters get to see their scores posted.
The new name is Coal Canyon Precision Rifle Match according to the website....Help me out here guys, what is the new name?
I haven't been back to the SRM regular match in years because it's 8 hours away so I'm out of the loop. I do have a question. What is a/the "outlaw division"?
Just commenting but in NRL22 and in our local air rifle matches we've also seen many people try our matches and also never come back. We tried setting up some easier targets on each station but they lost interest anyway. I think part of it is when they saw our higher end guns and scopes and realized how much they cost they decided to draw the line there. Then another thing was lacking the desire to learn the nuances of being proficient enough to hit most of the steel.
It's a tough balance to find for the MD's because the people that come most often to a particular match want to have a challenging course and targets.
I don't have a solution except to set up a course to where there is a possibility of a perfect score even though there might be a couple very difficult targets.
I'd like to make a trip out next year for biking and shooting which will give me the excuse I need for being out that way for most of a week.
"Sporting Rifle Match" is a name that is 20 years old and at the time, it was appropriate. More info on this here. The new name is designed to more accurately express what the match is all about. Why is the name of the match changing for the 2025 season?
