Harvard Sportsman Club closed......

HSC IS CURRENTLY CLOSED TO ALL, INCLUDING MEMBERS

Unfortunately, the local authorities currently believe that it is in the best interest of the Community for HSC to be closed to all people. We remain in discussion with the authorities to determine whether the Club can remain available for non-range related activity such as hiking and relaxing, similar to conservation lands that remain open. That issue is not yet clarified.

However, at this time, it is clear that
ALL RANGES ARE CLOSED, BOTH INDOOR AND OUTDOOR.

We are doing our best to convey the benefits of HSC remaining open to its limited Membership, but we experienced a police officer touring the Club and asking people to stop. So we will continue the discussion with authorities to determine the best action for our Members, their Families, and the Community.

WE WILL KEEP OUR MEMBERSHIP POSTED REGARDING UPDATES.

I shot my Springfield M2 yesterday at Harvard and made a post of my crap results in the vintage section.

If this shit dont end soon Ill be the next Centjackulator - no contribution to the shooting community besides Bear Pit nonsense.

The April family vacation to Utah was cancelled due to CV-19, who needs to go out there and have a bunch of yahoos ask my wife if she wants to join their harem anyway.

Think Ill have to plan a camping trip to my friends farm to get the shooting fix in.

Local gun store, biggest in the area, incredible volume, put out a message advising everything was restocked, all ammo/guns available. Customers would be called into the shop individually to maintain distancing.

Hour later gun shops were again ommitted and our AG sent out a message basically saying gun owners are a threat to police.

Great place, super adult in their operation, Im sure they went down kicking. Most of the local cops are members.

Only downside is 300 yards as distant as they offer but for MA 300 yards is outstanding.

There are a few state police troopers that are members. They had been told by their superiors to make themselves scarce for a while. We looked the other way as they took advantage of our guest policy and relaxed some of the range rules for them to get a little training in. You know, trying to be nice. We also rent our range to several local police departments.

This evening I was told to expect the state police to be shutting our ranges down sometime tomorrow.

The people of this state and the government they elect treat convicted sexual offenders and murders better than they treat gun owners.

If this “shutdown” happens at Reading, I’ll do my best to ensure that no non-member police officer fires a single solitary round on our ranges through at least the end of 2020.

Any member officers/troopers will be subject to all of club rules as well. No more bending the rules out of good will. This one is easy, as I’m the one that makes the rules under our bylaws. Lol

I think this is coming down from on high for some reason.

Gun owners are severely outnumbered in Mass. I would imagine the AG could pressure the Sec of State or the Dept of Revenue to put the screws to the clubs.

Massachusetts requires a permit to possess firearms and ammo. The licensing process is completely arbitrary and local chiefs of police can revoke permits for any reason or for no reason. The AG could get sympathetic chiefs to revoke some permits and confiscate the permit holder’s guns. If they made an example of enough people, no one will fight them. Most residents of Mass would applaud them for being tough on evil gun owners.

That Massachusetts is long gone. Confiscation of all firearms in the state would be welcomed with cheers by the majority. The only thing stopping them is they know there are at least a few that will fight back. No one wants to be the first guy in that stack.

Harvard has a good sense of self.

They run under a "Shooting Preserve" charter.

I guess there is a difference legally vs "preserve" and "club".

They may also have some protection under mil useage being near to Devens but Im guessing Reading could claim similar being as close as they are to the Guard facility.

It usually allows Harvard to tell complainants to pound sand, there are more protections.

Well run club. Besides maintaining grounds their other focus is buying buffer property whenever it comes available. Really nice place just for walking the grounds.

Same for State Police, same for the individual police officer. As a former military officer, I was sworn to uphold the constitution and would never follow an illegal order. I was stationed at Devens with 10th SFG(A).

Sherriffs are completely neutered in MA for the most part.

There is one hot shit that fills the traditional role in Sheriff Tom Hodgson.

The rest are political place holders elected in popularity contests in how many favors they have handed out.

Sherriffs are involved in the housing and transport of prisoners only. The bulk of their funding comes from ownership of the court houses which they rent to the state.

County govt became a hackerama of excesses and it has been pretty much mothballed into a symbolic entity.

I like the idea of elected sherriffs in other parts of the country but like most pols there are good and bad. The good are very good and the bad ruin it for everyone else no matter how good they are.
