Hey guys I just had a question. I have a M91/30 Mosin Nagant. I went to the range and at 50 yards I shot at a paper target with 5 shots and missed all of them. I noticed the sights had a lowest setting of 100 yards. How should I aim using the sights in order to hit where I am aiming? I heard that I should aim a little higher than where I want to hit. I know it might be a newbie question...Thanks in advance!

Mosins are notoriously sighted such that they'd likely hit WAY high at 50 yards. IIRC, the order of the day for aiming Mosins was supposedly to aim for the target's belt buckle out to 300 yards and you'd be rewarded with a hit somewhere in the torso.

M91/30 bayonets attach directly to the barrel. M44's are side-folders, but even in that case the muzzle exit gas and/or change in center of mass on the barrel from it being extended seems to push the bullet around.

Other options exist, the coffee straw over the front sight post is probably one of the most common mods, and IIRC, a drift to the right is pretty typical. I'd guess about 8" high at 50yd and maybe 2-3 right is what I remember from growing up with milsurp stuff.
