I worked for a Mercedes dealer many decades ago. Once when I was letting a car down I was reaching over the engine and in a hurry. The left front tire came down on my foot and pinned me in place, no damage done. To me or the car, had to take my shoe off to get away. And that, boys and girls is why hydraulic lifts have a dead mans switch.

I did something similar while working in a garage around 1973, before the dead man switches. Letting a car down, started working through a door while it was coming down. I felt the top of the lift coming down on my toes and scrunched them up in my boots, narrowly missing having my toes crushed. But I was trapped, and had to yell for someone to raise the lift. Waaay too close of a call...and you can be sure I didn't go anywhere near a lowering lift after that episode
