I like seeing traditionally Democrat demographics at the range, it’s their right too and when gun ownership ceases to be a Dem vs Rep issue less Dem politicians will vote for anti gun legislation.Not sure what is going on in your area, but the mix of people at the range has changed dramatically in South Florida. I've seen Orthodox Jews, LBGT and many that I would have consider a unicorn at the range ten years ago. This includes a lot of the "they" I think you are talking about.

Find a subdivision that has retired it's HOA. they donate their common areas to the city and if the city collects trash cease operations. My last HOA was written that way but developers don't like to give up their power until every lot is sold. God forbid they fail and the bank runs the HOA.Sadly, for those of us in the Tampa Bay area, those "non deed restricted" properties are few and far between, especially in nearer city suburbs. I mean, property in and of itself is being gobbled up by developers who want to impose deed restrictions (and HOA's to enforce them) in order to attract the right kind of buyers. One has to go out to the "boonies" to get a good 5-10 acre plot that isn't deed restricted. And out there, you're dealing with Infrastructure issues, DIY utilities, etc. etc. Maybe that's the price you pay, but....

I am happy where I am at. You can have multimillion dollar homes next to people living in old house with the roof falling in, but everyone leaves you alone. BTW, I am somewhere in between the two. Not poor, but not rich either. Best of all NO HOA.Not gonna happen in my area.

One hoaSdemand and fine requiring springs covers on a trampoline, only to receive an additional fine the next day because the cover did not match the color of the trim on his home.
Some HOAs members are not allowed to have any kind of signage on their lawn, including , garage sale or For Sale signs. You don't want to have a 50th b-day.
Leaving a car parked for too long requiring them to be moved at least every 30 days and have current registration. Car covers? Forget about it.
Installing solar, satellite dishes of modern sizes ,and even doing concrete repairs on driveways, sidewalks or to repair sagging front entryways. Ask me about the deck I built over my entryway or metal hand rails on my 1st house.

As part of the lawsuits they brought, which I countersued claiming retribution and predatory enforcement, being dropped, The HOA was basically stripped of all powers but what was required to operate. This as in the 1990's and NEVER AGAIN!
They tried to tell me what my choices were for trim colors and what color ( only the same as the house) the doors could be. I did a gloss deep cranberry red and they went on a hissy fit.
How big your dog could be, having a damaged car in the driveway overnight or even having a flat tire will get you a fine in some HOAs
Having your garage door open for more than an hour, having a baby gate at the top or bottom of your deck, or even decorating or, in my case, enclosing your mailbox in stone, would be cause for you being fined and threatened by the HOA.

Choose carefully, I would never buy a property unless ANY OWNERSHIP ASSOCIATION IS NOT STRIPPED OF POWER EXCLUDING TO MAINTAINING COMMAN AREAS AND ARRANGING TRASH SERVICE after the developer was actively operating (not sitting on lots).

Yep TyranntsI had relatives that lived under HOA rule once. They were cited for not having flowers according to the HOA regs. They put them in and then were cited because they dug up the flowerbed and had dirt showing next tot the flowers they wanted installed. HOA's are simply homes for miniature tyrants.
