Still, I think we really have to redefine/reset what mental illness is. If we're talking people who definitely have some sort of chemical or neurological deficiency, that's one thing. The classic mental facility might be the place for them. But the major problem I think are people who, just simply, were not raised properly to have strong moral values, a sense of "right from wrong," and feel it's OK to use violence by any means to achieve their objectives or make themselves known to the world. I'm not sure I'd call those types of people, "mentally ill." I'd call them "socially depraved" or something like that. They ain't dumb, stupid, crazy, etc in a "clinical" sense. They know how to achieve their goals. They just think it's OK to use violence as a tool to achieve them. They know how to keep "under the RADAR" until they can execute their plan(s). For these people, I think the "hole" in a standard Prison facility will work well. But they have to be committed to that at the onset. Not after they've been let go a couple of times and are available to wreak havoc. But then, the defense lawyers will work like crazy to get them free. And that's the other problem.

I think lawyers/parents, etc., if they know (or should know) that a client (or child) of there's is, thus, socially depraved, or maybe even mentally ill, It's their responsibility to get them to the right facility for treatment. And they should be held criminally liable if they ignore their client/child's behavior and that child/client subsequently commits a violent crime.

You can't always blame the parents. The medical side as well as the legal side handicap them. When a parent brings a child information an evaluation only to have them be released 4 hours later with no treatment that is not their fault. People who go through the system enough learn what to say to get releases as quickly as possible. I am not suicidal. They misunderstood what I said. That's not what I meant. My wife and I have a friend that is going through this right now with her teenage daughter. She is trying her best to get help but the hospitals won't commit her unless she does actual physical harm to herself. Legally she can't commit the daughter herself under the current laws either.
