When Target came to Dallas in the early 1970’s, they quickly had several holes in their sign.
They took out an ad in the paper asking people to not shoot at it. And most did over time.
When Target came to Summerville, SC, they proposed painting their logo on the town's water tower and taking responsibility for maintaining the exterior paint. I was at the town council meeting when Target's lawyer proposed this, and one of the council members said "Now there's a good idea" while shooting upward with a finger gun. The place broke out in laughter and they immediately voted "No".
