More than likely shot an arrow that was broken. If you have an arrow miss flex it and rotate it to make sure it's not broken. Or shooting an over draw and short ass arrows.
Shaft of the arrow flexed and broke on release.
I flex every one of my arrows after every shot even when practicing or target shooting. If it is an arrow that has been shot while hunting, I will check them over real good.
You know.... this had a special ring to it.
Cedar arrow split and went thru the back and ball of my thumb 30 years ago. Shit happens.

There's a better way to check them. Flexing is ok but holding it in one hand and bouncing off your fist about a third of the way up from the broadhead/ field point works better. There's a reason baseball players tap their bat on the dirt before hitting.
