This race outside of Leadville always seems like a bad idea……

There is another in Clear Creek, Georgetown and maybe Idaho Springs too, not over a crazy high pass though.

Old trapper guy from Idaho Springs area was always there.
Not fast and looked 100% like he was outta Jeremiah Johnson.
Haven't been over Mosquito Pass but over many of the passes in the San Juan's. Lots of shelf roads which will definitely make you pucker. Folks get killed up there every year either in ATV's or Jeeps. Mostly flatlanders who don't appreciate the dangers inherent on those roads. Three people were killed this week when their Jeep rolled off the road to Imogene Pass. The driver was a local hired by a Jeep tour outfit showing it can happen to anybody.

Yep.

Im not a 4 wheeling guy, but have ridden my bike over a few of them.
Seen a few nasty accidents with Jeeps in my years up in the mtns, on roads not nearly as crazy as some of the SW CO roads.

No BS and death in the mtns is a real thing.
Working where I do in Denver, I see the ones who live, or at least make it here alive…..

As I head out in a few days bear hunting solo. 🤣

Somebody really fucked traffic in OKC!

this is a for real race, I think it is one of their 100 mile races where you have to take along a pack donkey or mule. It usually covers several of the 14,000' ft elevation mountains in the area. Near Silverton, Ouray Colorado area. Most are done anymore without the ass in tow.

always amazed how the tires dont let go.

done the same on more than a few forklifts taking equipment off
If you ever watched them build those tires on how it’s made you would understand why they don’t fail. Most are all hand made and they are definitely extreme duty. They can withstand a huge load but are not impervious to puncture’s, small holes sometimes can be patched. Fuck up a side wall you may be pissing in a cup, that tire probably $ 2500.00. Big Catapiller 657 scraper tires earth mover, $ 25,000.00 per tire !
I have heard of a 657 tire letting go and demolishing a service truck like a bomb hit it, tires are over 7 foot tall.

Rough estimate: If every single member of the successive British royal family lines starting with the Wessex (Anglo-Saxon) kings represent a station stop on a New York City Transit subway line, give or take 2-5 minutes between each stop, with no stations skipped, the journey from the time of the first Wessex king Alfred The Great right down to present day Charles III would be the equivalent of taking the D line, running full weekend local service from Norwood 205th Street in the Bronx down to Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue, then transferring to a hypothetical shuttle line going over the Verrazano Bridge into Staten Island,

Then transfer to the Staten Island Railway and riding it all the way to end of the line before transferring again to another hypothetical shuttle service to New Jersey traveling northwest,

And finally boarding a Bay Head Branch NJ Transit train at Newark-Penn and going through every stop down to Point Pleasant Beach. And at this point, we have only reached the first Georgian period of the monarchy...

To continue, we will have to take ANOTHER hypothetical light rail connecting shuttle from Point Pleasant Beach to Atlantic City where we board the independant Atlantic City line traversing NJ westward and finally ending the journey at the 30th Street Terminal in Philadelphia, PA... The entire journey, counting in an average of 10 minute wait time at every point we have to switch between main line to shuttle, and to a new line, will take approximately 5 hours and 45 minutes... Oh wait, make that 5 hours and 55 minutes because the transition between Wessex and Norman marks a major change, so let that be represented by having to get off the D at 125th Street in Harlem, Manhattan, because the train is being taken out of service due to a mechanical problem and waiting for the following D train behind that one...

The Incredible Journey.

Reminds me of a story my uncle used to tell. In the 60s my uncle had a souped up Beetle and like to race. He did well, until another Beetle pulled up and the drive wanted to run. My uncle got his ass handed to him. He said it was like racing a strong V8 Mustang, or Camaro. They both stopped to chat and the other driver revealed he had a hot 911 engine in his Beetle and like to race the Camaros and Mustangs for cash and usually won. Not all is as it appears, I guess.
