2 cents a bale if we had to handle them twice...............that had nothing to do with baling it...........picking it out of the field, or off a loader............stacking it on a truck/trailer.............off the truck/trailer on to a stack or into a barn..........
We got 5 cents a bale to get it from the field to stacked in the barn. Myself and 3 friends did that every summer through junior high school and high school for a bunch of ranchers in western Montana. We used my dad's 2 1/2 ton flatbed Dodge. We took turns driving, bucking and stacking. We were the only 4 guys in high school that drove nice newer cars, mine was a red 69 Road Runner.

One thing I remember from those days is, there wasn't enough food, I was always hungry. We would eat 3 or 4 sandwiches for lunch and still be hungry. It did make other things much easier like playing football or basketball, we were kids with grown man strength playing against kids.
