I tried something new today mounting my scope on my new rifle. I had read all of the information here about mounting them so that the crosshairs were straight up and down and my friend said I needed a vise to put it in and level it to put the scope on. I don't have a vice and didn't want to wait several days to order one so I set up a plumb bob string at 75 yards (all I could get for range) and put a 2x4 on top of a couple of blocks and leveled the 2x4. Then laid the flat part of my rifle where the bottom metal runs up through the stock on the 2x4 with the bipod down and sighted the plumb bob string while I tightened the screws on the rings. This way, assuming the bottom of the stock is indeed flat, I should have the rifle and the crosshairs square and straigt. I guess I'll be finding out if it worked when I start shooting some.
