    Gentlemen of SH,
I recently acquired a Vortex 4-16x50 PST scope for an awesome deal. I am looking to mount it on my flat top 20" P308 POF-USA rifle. I am looking to shoot 200-500yds until I get a little better then stretch it out a little more. I have been getting good groups at 100yds with BUIS, but looking for options to mount my new scope.
I am open to all suggestions for my platform. I do like Vortex products and have a Vortex Viper with their precision matched rings on my M1A Scout on a SEI mount. I like that set up and it is rock solid.
What have you guys used for something like my POF set up? I am not looking to spend $500 on a mount, but know that the rings/mounts is where its at to keep zero on my optic.

Thank you in advance for your help

    Stay safe
    Tack

MODS: Im sorry if this is a repeat of anyone's thread, I just didn't see anything similar when I did a search

    Re: Mounting options questions

I have been using the "american defence recon" mount on a 260. It holds poi and is solid as a rock. Brownels has them for $150.

    Re: Mounting options questions

Sawman what model LaRue is that? Ollie, I like that American Defense Recon mount, but what objective lens do you use? I have to overcome a 50mm lens and a fairly high POF monolithic rail system. Im going to mic the centerline of the scope tube to the top of the rail to gauge the clearance I may need to overcome the 50mm lens and rail height.
Ill post the measurement when I can get it....

Thanks for the information so far...

    Re: Mounting options questions

My roommate has had a POF P308 for 2 years. The tall rail has proven standard 1.4-1.5" AR mounts to be unuable unless you want a chin weld -- everybody who has looked through scopes in LaRue LT104 and GG&G Accucam mounts has agreed -- not a single person liked it.

Measurements have show 1.125" as his ideal centerline height, which is too low for a 50mm objective.

He just bought a spare S&B 4-16x50 from me for it. We test mounted it in my 1.125" Near Alphamount & the scope barely touched he rail. We also tested a set of 1.45" Seekins AR-High rings I had and confirmed they are simply too high. We narrowed down the best bet to 1.257 or 1.275" Badger rings or upcoming 1.25" Seekins rings since he wants to use caps.

Vortex specs the objective bell OD at 2.26". Half that to 1.13" and it should confirm a 1.25" height will give you less than 1/8" clearance which means you still may have to sand down the scope cap a bit. How about Vortex Precision Matched (Seekins) high 30mm rings that measure 1.26"?

    Re: Mounting options questions

Our 1.25" rings are actually 1.26"... Website should be fixed sometime i hope! Its my choice for a standard AR flat top. I couldn't imagine sticking 1.4's on a POF with their top rail so much higher. I would need a adjustable cheek piece with anything over 1.26" for sure

    Re: Mounting options questions

I used Badger 30mm 1.125" rings with my Burris XTR 6-24x50 on my POF308 and it fit perfectly with a BC scope cap. Tuscon Dave was the one who told me that's what I needed for that scope.

They cleared the rail by about 4-5mm with a BC flip cap.

I also tried a 30mm American Defense mount and it was way too high.

Bought it for a scope I don't own yet that will go on an AR15 but wanted to try it on the POF. Too high.

If Seekins makes 30mm 1.125" rings then I would try those. Out of Badger, Leupold Mark4 and Seekins rings I like the Seekins the best. If Glen doesn't offer them in that height then I'd go with the Badgers.

I eventually got my HDMR paid off and went with Seekins low rings on a badger 20 minute rail riser. I went that route so I could move the scope/low rings over to my bolt gun when I want/need to. The lows work perfect on my Rem700 and on the P308 with the 20moa riser.

    Re: Mounting options questions

Gentlemen, Im sorry for the delay in responding to the posts. I was on duty yesterday and couldn't get a break to look at your responses to my questions. I contacted Scott at Vortex and he said the High tactical rings would work. But after using a micrometer, I found it roughly came out to be 1.425" from top of rail to centerline of scope tube. Now I did have a beed or 2 before but took my time to measure.
But looking at the posts, it looks like the 1.25,( actual measurement 1.26" )high rings will work?
Thanks for the information so far

    Re: Mounting options questions

Yeah they'll work. They will be higher than the rings I posted that will work. 2" tall rings would work too haha. 1.125" Badgers are just right with a 30mm tube, 50mm objective, a Butler Creek scope cap and a POF308. Unless your scope's OD is about 6mm bigger than my old Burris'

    Re: Mounting options questions

Redirt78: Sounds like I need the 1.25 rings. Have you tried the Vortex rings at all? I have heard they are made by Seekins? I don't know if thats true, but the tactical rings I am using on my M1A Scout I happen to really like.
    Thoughts?

    Re: Mounting options questions

Redirt, do you still have those Badger rings? If yes, would you mic them? Looking at the pic, those look like 1.25" rings to me.

1.125" rings should be 0.53" from rail to bottom of scope. 1.25" ring should be 0.66".

    Re: Mounting options questions

I will check them out when I get home sometime tomorrow. I remember asking what rings I needed for a 30mm scope tube and 50mm objective on my POF and I'm almost 100% sure I was told 1.125's. A few days later some Badger 1.125's came up for sale,I bought them and they fit good. If that's not right my memory sucks

    Re: Mounting options questions

I can't get a good measurement on mine right now because they are mounted on a scope with the reducers in because it's a one inch scope tube.

I'm pretty sure they are the same size rings that came with the GAP-10 rifles when G.A. Precision first put them on the market. Someone there could tell you.

Edit: I remember now that I posted in one of the GAP-10 threads that I wanted to buy a set of the rings and that's how I got mine. Someone sold me a pair they didn't need
