I tried the search, but couldn't find anything on this so bear with me. I have a question on engaging moving targets. Given the two different methods of aiming, ambush, & track, is there a lesser lead if you track? My thoughts are if the brl is moving with the target wouldn't that tend to negate the lead?

    No, a 2 mil lead is a 2 mil lead. :)

Yes, theoretically the lead is the same and a moving barrel does not affect it. But:

First, the lead is the same if the wind is constant and you dial the windage component at the gun. Otherwise the leads are different in different directions.

Second, what the OP might be referring to is an individual's trigger lock time, which could vary between the two techniques, and that would alter the amount of lead that the shooter uses with each technique because the shooter might have different mental timings for initiating the trigger pull.

Yes, wind is another matter. I was thinking that something wasn't right about one of my only times shooting a moving target. It was elk season, & I had punched my bull @ 516 yds, but he fell, got up, & started off. I tracked him, & accounted for some lead (didn't have time to calculate), & put 2 more into him, but those basically hit where I was aiming, not where I wanted them to go. Now this was from a sling supported sitting position which wasn't ideal, but what I had at the time, so I was wondering why my rnds hit where the crosshair was instead of where I wanted them to go. There was no appreciable wind, as it was lightly snowing. It all worked out in the end, & his mount is on my wall, but I was curious why there appeared to be no lag in the bullet flight.
BTW. The 1st rnd killed him, I just didn't want him to make it to the rim of the canyon, which he did, & tumbled over, & down, & down...
