MPA 22LR CZ455 Barrel Testing/Review

So I got back out just to shoot some groups with a few of the best performing ammo to give a final thought on this barrel. It has 228rd on it now and its shooting very nice little groups for what the barrel cost.

Anyone looking for a custom barrel for their CZ 455 that is very accurate should consider the MPA barrel. Installed on your CZ action by MPA and they cost as much as a Lilja blank which you then have to pay gunsmith fees.

I’ve been running the MPA 22BA since late last summer and have been happy with it. I primarily shoot Federal Ultra Match, but have tested Lapua Midas +, Eley Tennex and several others, but the Federal Ultra Match has been the best thus far. Unless it’s really cold (below zero temps) then I might as well throw rocks at the target.

Hmm - I'd be very interested in hearing details of the Bartlein bbl for a 457 American. I've tried several different brands & grades of ammo through mine, even pulled it & dialed-in the muzzle on one of my lathes to cut a new crown. The new crown helped some, but it's just not what I'd hoped for, and certainly doesn't hold a candle to the accuracy of my new 457 Varmint MTR...

ETA - the bbl's Bartlein has are straight .900" cylinder, chambered with a Bentz reamer. Won't work for my American sporter, need a pencil bbl for it, and wouldn't want a Bentz chamber for a bolt rifle anyway. Still, any bbl I've ever had from Bartlein was very good to excellent - you probably will be very pleased with these for use in a varmint stock.

I'm real interested in the Bartlein review. I wonder what the logic was behind the Bentz chamber, though.

A-Rob, I had to wonder about their choice of reamers also. Wonder if it's got anything to do with not being able to extract a loaded round out of some/most of the match chambers? Maybe Frank felt it was the best compromise they could come up with? In shooting the two CZ457s I have so far, I feel their extractors are pretty positive, but the guys at Bartlein had to have tested their bbls with CZ actions...must've had a reason for going with the Bentz reamer...
