Hello again and thanks to everyone for their help and tolerance for a beginner. I now have an issue with getting a muzzle brake installed. I am going to purchase the M700 tactical long range in .300 winmag, but I need to know info on muzzle brakes. Do I need one? Do you have one? Does it help? Who put it on? How much was it? Thanks guys.

Re: Muzzle Brakes..need info & pics

On a .300winmag, and someone without a decent amount of experience behind a rifle i would say a muzzle brake will help.

If your new to the game this caliber is only going to give you a flinch, bad mental juju and a sore shoulder.

A muzzle brake will reduce the recoil enough to make her comfortable to shoot all day long. Hearing protection is a must even more so with muzzle brakes added.

Check out Holland Radial brakes, Badger FTE, APA etc.. they all make good brake, plus theres many more I have not mentioned

Find a reputable smith in your area and have him install it properly.

Are you getting this work done in the ghan or ?

Re: Muzzle Brakes..need info & pics

I have a Remington 700 Sendero in .300WM. It is uncomfortable to shoot without a break! Very uncomfortable!
With a break it is nicer then a .308 (without a break).

I was firing 210grn Berger VLD's with 73grn of RE22 behind it and if I had more ammo I would have shot more than the 50 or so rounds I did.

I have to say that I would strongly suggest getting a break!
Badger FTE's seem to be pretty popular. I am using my Sako break because I have a TRG and both the Rem and Sako are now threaded with 18X1 for the TBAC suppressor I ordered.

HS Precision installed a muzzle brake on the .300 Win. Mag. barrel that I bought from them. The brake significantly reduces the rifle's recoil. It feels like I am shooting a .308 Win with the brake. I don't enjoy the recoil without the brake.

Recieved my RWS built muzzle brake last week and installed it, great brake, great service, great price. You might want to check them out.

Here is a link RWS Brake

Here is a short video I made after installing it on a rifle. <object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JDB4izCg7YE"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JDB4izCg7YE" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object>

I'm sorry but all I could focus on is the music in the backround.

Re: Muzzle Brakes..need info & pics

Hey 10th remember the brake only helps with the gas recoil not the bullet weight recoil. And yes it will make your 300 feel great to shoot. I just removed a JP 2 port from my 1000 yd 30.06 and installed a 3 port Holland style from Ross Schuler [email protected] He is here on the hide as well. His break is great. With the 300 make sure you go with 3 - or more ports for best and most comfortable results. If you give a location of the gun, other guys might have a place to send it for threading and indexing.

I'm pretty well convinced that most brakes offer similar results in recoil reduction. The RWS brake is a nice one and the APA Little Bastard is also a very effective option. Whatever you do make sure it does not vent gas down like the Vias style or you'll be eating dust.

where did you see that?

Re: Muzzle Brakes..need info & pics

I have the Hollad QD, very much like what RWS sells. Shooing 208 Amax's at just under 2900 FPS, has less recoil than my son's .270, about like a .243.

Make long range sessions more enjoyable for sure (well, for me... spotters aren't so sure

hey brother... talk to Jim over at Jim's Guns in Watertown. This guy can set you up with a Vias style brake. I have shot his 7mm Mag with that style brake and will tell you it recoils like a 243 or less. He is the man to talk to for sure. He also works on base as a DOD civi working on the weapons with LSI. If you can't find his place or number I think I still have his card somewhere and I'll get you hooked up.

Re: Muzzle Brakes..need info & pics

Here is my Remington M700p in a .300WM. It has a RWS .30 cal brake on it. It reduced the recoil on my .300 to about the same as a .243. I had it on my .308 and the recoil on it was about the same as a .223. and plus for the price he ask for them you can't beat them.
