hey guys I'm pretty new to the long range game but have found a lot of interest in it so here's my question I just picked up a 700 LR in 300wm it weighed in about 9 lbs naked I have a bipod an aluminum one peice base and a vortex diamondback back hp scope mounted on it so I'm guessing it's in the 12 to 13 lb range now I've only shot in prone off the bipod originally I was getting some major muzzle hop to up and to the right I corrected my technique some and loaded the bipod and put a foam comb riser on so that I could rest my head on the stock and maintain sight picture I still get a little bit of hop not bad but after the shot my point of aim is just over the target at 100 yards what other techniques should I employ to try and eliminate the muzzle jump or will it require a brake with it being a magnum cartridge

A magnum will certainly exploit any weakness in your recoil management technique. A muzzle brake will only reduce the effect. Not sure what techiniques you use but these are important ones to think about. Do you check NPA? Are you pulling the rifle into your shoulder pocket before loading the bipod? Are you completely relaxed before/during breaking the shot? Are you breaking at the bottom of your breathing cycle?

my npa is ussaully just above the target maybe I need to get another bag to raise the stock a bit more when the rifle is at rest once I get behind the rifle I put support hand between the stock and the bag to bring the cross hairs onto the target and no I don't pull the rifle into my shoulder when I get behind the rifle I position my self so that when I get down I'm pushing myself into the rifle to load the bipod I feel pretty relaxed before and during the break of the shot I'll ussaully lay behind the rifle for a bit and close my eyes for sec to relax then open them and make sure I still have a proper sight picture but I've been breaking the shot the top of my breathing cycle and that could be why I feel so much of the recoil shock go through my spine I just wanna get my technique down before I put a break on which is in the plans but wanna make sure I'm doing every thing right first

If your NPA is above the target before you break the shot, that could be your entire problem. Breaking at the bottom of your breathing cycle will greatly increase consistency. I recommend changing that part of your technique for starters. By not applying a straight, rearward pressure into the shoulder pocket before loading the biopod, you are actually unloading the bipod slightly by applying the rearward pressure after pushing yourself into the bipod. Also, you may need to play with the height of your bipod and rear bag. Having the bipod too high can cause issues just the same as having it too low. You want the rear of the rifle resting on the bag and not on your hand. You will use your support hand to squeeze the rear bag to raise or lower the rear of the rifle and at the same time, cradling the buttstock with your thumb and index finger to keep the rifle from fishtailing during the recoil impulse.

Unlikely you will ever completely eliminate muzzle hop completely on a 300WM. If you can spot your misses at 500yd then you are doing good.

I shoot a 375CT (T5 MB) & a 338LM (T4 MB) w/no muzzle hop, just a nice solid "push") There's no reason the op can't shoot a 300 WM w/o hop as well. With decent fundamentals (practice makes perfect, do it) and an excellent brake there's no reason that the op can't succeed in this. Op, practice good fundamentals, look at T3 or T4 Terminator brakes, a 5 port BEAST brake (muzzlebrakesandmore.com) or a Fat Bastard MB. You can do this. Not that big a deal, really. Then just enjoy the gun!
