Her first time to fire a gun of any type I had her set up at 10yds and told her to aim for the 10 in the middle. On her second shot she hit the 10 and asked "what do i shoot at now?" After a few more we moved to 30yds. This is an air rifle with open sights no sand bags. She sat cross-legged on a bench using body support for the rear and resting the front of the rifle on a table. We were at the range for three hours in 100 degree Texas weather and she didn't want to leave. I am very proud!

Re: My daughters first range day

thats great. My dad is into pellet guns and he has the new remington nitro piston one- that benjamin supplied the nitro piston for. its very quiet and very accurate. you may be buying one of those soon...

Pitt,

Good looking groups for a first time out. You might have a solid markswomen on your hands. Enthusiasm is half the battle in getting your kids into the game. I have a 2 year old daughter and already bought her a CZ 452 with open sights. It's important to teach them marksmanship first then move them on to magnified sights if need be.

Man, you can tell she is totally excited to be doing that, that's awesome.

Ask her what color of our rear bags she wants, give me your mailing address and I'll send her one of them.

Keep up the good work.

Re: My daughters first range day

We were at the PSC shooting range in Friendswood, Tx. I actually put a huge piece of paper behind the targets to see where her misses were and was worried about how I might instruct her if she didnt get it. I was ecstatic to see how quickly she got on target. The first shot on the left (10yds) was high and several on the right (30yds)high and low were elevation adjustments. I think she only missed the black with a few rounds as she got tired. I wanted to do it when she was five but she was so small she couldnt even get a semblance of a good position.
I think the fact that we were at an empty range helped a lot so she could walk down and see the target and where she hit every time. That instant feedback really pumped her up.

Re: My daughters first range day

That is the way I learned. Wore out two Daisy pellet guns as a kid, back in the day you couldn't pry them out of my hands. Very cool picture, congrats!

Re: My daughters first range day

Great photo!

Got two of my own and they have been on BB and Pellet guns since they were about your girl's age. Now they don't like it when I go without them...

It's not something they're likely to forget.

Re: My daughters first range day

its awesome that you took your daughter out shooting with you! i love it when i see people taking their kids out to shoot. its so important to teach safety and skills at a young age, and its a great way to teach responsibility and bond at the same time.

Re: My daughters first range day

Man, my little man will be 15 months tomorrow and as much as I don't want him to grow up too fast.... I can't WAIT to have these types of moments with him!

Good on you for being the kind of Dad who does things with his kid(s?).

Re: My daughters first range day

I am realyl glad to see such a sea change in attitude about girls and guns. My dad never taught my sisters to shoot because he thought they wouldn't be interested. So I taught them, and now he gets ticked when I point out thet they are better with a pistol than he is.

I can't wait to have kids. Pictures like that remind me of my own childhood and how much I look forward to teaching my own children, spending time with them, and seeing them grow up.

Pic of mine shooting my Scar this spring. She actually chopped down a small tree with about 60 rounds.

She was deadly accurate with it and listened very well. [img:center]
