This is my first bolt gun. It is a custom Remington 700, built by Mel at Sniper Central. Looked like a fair deal to get a rifle how I wanted it, as an entry level package.

Base Rifle: Remington 700 SPS Tactical
Caliber: .308 WIN
Barrel: 1-in-12 twist, 20”
Stock: B&C MK II Adjustable, Tan with Black Webbing
Bolt Knob: TacOps Bolt Knob
Bipod: Harris 6-9” adjustable with spring loaded legs.
Optics: Bushnell Elite 5-15x40mm

Previous experience with bolt guns: Stock Remington 700 SPS of friend, and a M24 at an SRT range in the Army.

Initial impression without firing it yet? *giggles like a schoolgirl*

Action seems fairly smooth, trigger is nice and tight with no discernible creep or unreasonable over travel.

I fed some dummy reloads through it. Cycled smooth and nicely.
The only thing I didn't like about the stock was the solid cheek piece which forces me to move it down every time I want to remove the bolt. (I really wish I could set it once and not have to move it again.)

Congratulation That is a good looking rifle.

I'm putting together one like it. I bought the Remington package from Gander Mountain. Added the B&C Adjustable stock in Black, Millett 4-16x50 scope, Harris bipod.

I have a timney 40X 1-1/2 to 4 lb trigger on order.

Next I want to change the hinged floor plate out to a 10 round magazine and get my tac bolt knob.

I think Remington 700 SPS Varmint is a great entry level rifle.

Took her out today and sighted her in. Wow-wee!

She is a shooter! Put 30 rounds of Federal 150gr soft points through her, because I didn't have my hand loads finished yet. Got her zeroed, and fired a bunch of 3 round groups - just getting myself comfortable with her. The average group was .83 in and the best group was .67 in with non-match ammo...I wish I had picked more types up at wally world to try out - they really should sell packs of ammo with 10 rounds of several different bullet weights per manufacturer for load selection...

I couldn't be more impressed and got more than one comment about her at the local range.

Don, I would like to put a timney in her when funds allow, and I probably will put the Wylett's detachable mag in her since its a drop in conversion, and this is at most a hunting rifle - my life should never rely on her.

I will upgrade optics when I feel that the optics are my limiting factor, which may be sooner than later. Good glass but I just couldn't get a good track from my clicks.

They're custom spec'd, so he was able to order it with the B&C stock, Tac Ops bolt knob, base/rings/scope of his choice, etc. While not necessarily a custom by conventional use of the word here, it is technically custom versus a box-stock gun.

Looks great!
