Being that I am a moron sometimes and it takes me a couple times to open my gun safe, I needed a quicker way to access a firearm in a self defense/ home intrusion situation. But.....with 2 young boys at home I needed something secure. I looked at different cabinets and shit but nothing seemed to be more than a tin box with a 5 dollar cam lock, so I decided to build my own.

It measures 46" tall, 12" wide and 4" deep. 3/16" plate steel fully welded seams with 1" angle trim plug welded to dress it up a bit. I got a Medeco hardened cam lock and made my own cam and locking bars. I also welded 3/4" angle on the back side of the door to act like locking pins to prevent it from being pried open. The door lifts off to make it lighter for installation since it is heavy as fuck. Some gray carpeting finished off the inside and it's lag bolted to a stud from the inside.

It is probably way overkill but I had fun making it, and I am confident it will keep my knuckleheads and crack heads out. I screw an 18" barrel on my predator hunting shotgun for asshole duty.

Looks great. Building your own stuff is not only fun, but you know you've got something of quality that way.
Yea, all that detail and heavy plate is probably overkill, but fits right into the crowd around here. We understand:D

That's a great idea. Does it fit between the wall studs?

It will fit between the studs, but I wasn't too keen on cutting a big hole in my wall.

I forgot to mention that it is hung on my wife's side of the closet. She has a ridiculous amount of clothes and her shirts take up that whole area. You cant even tell it's there.

I might just have to run with this one for myself :) Nice job man, for the future though make the box just shy of 14.5" so it'll fit between studs snugly, let the angle go out from there and recess it into the wall. Paint it gloss gray and yep- it's a breaker panel!
