Interesting home workshop type mod.

Your brass deflector won't work now, as the part you machined away is where 99% of all ARs I've shot end up bouncing at.

But it's not considered a must have, the benefit of the brass deflector is for left handed shooters or operators switching shoulders to pie a corner.

But lots of sporting ARs are slabside uppers now, so typical folks don't have a use for it.

Lots of people are doing this these days, however everything cool starts off as a backroom project. Good job! The "finish" work will get better every time you do more of it. I see this from the marine perspective as well - function over form. In the civilian world they treasure form over function. To adapt we (former marines that is..) much learn to make something that functions awesome and appeals to the masses who are more interested in collecting art more than acquiring a tool... Just my humble opinion. Got a box full of "projects" to prove it... lol! Semper Fi!
