Ordered the OBR (7.62) rifle on the 3/17 and it was in the shop on the 25th!! It looks great, fit and finish is just perfect. I have a problem with the optic decision. I don't know if I want ACOG or NF. I'll be shooting from 50-500 yards and if I find a place over 500 yards its going to be a miracle. Down the road I want to have both but for now money is a big issue. Please help. I'll post some pics later. Thanks

Re: My new OBR

Congratulations on the OBR, mine should be here this week. What options and barrel length did you get? If you are set on the ACOG, give the TA33-9 a try. If you are trying to shoot nice tight groups on paper with it, you will be dissapointed. It's pretty difficult to get a precise aiming point with the tip of the chevron on the ACOG reticle. Don't get me wrong, the ACOG is utterly reliable and very rugged, but a precision optic it is not. Like any BDC reticle, getting your ammo to match up to the holdovers can be tricky, but doable. Maybe a 2-10x Nightforce may do the trick? I have been very pleased with both of my Vortex PST's. I have the 1-4x on my AR-15, and plan on putting the 4-16x on my OBR. Vortex makes a 2-10x PST, and you could afford an ACOG with all the money you save.

Re: My new OBR

I love my OBR. I am running a nightforce 5-22 with offset irons and absolutely love this rifle so far. With that rifle I would go with the variable optic.

Have you tried the newer ACOG horseshoe reticle? I zero the top of the green dot and it's very easy to achieve good groups. Although you give up a little to a variable with crosshair; you cannot beat the ruggedness, ease of use, and fail-safe illumination. It's perfect for a battle rifle - less so for range fun.

Re: My new OBR

Do yourself a favor and save up (if you have to) for a Night Force 3X15. ACOG's are designed and excellent for shooting people but you will run short on magnification, especially @ 500yds if you want to see what your OBR is capable of group-wise.
I would also spend the money on Zero-Stop (Hi-Speed if you can swing it) turrets and a Mil/Mil setup or something similar. You may not take advantage of the turrets but when you want to do something different the scope will be very easy to sell. There is a reason why they are hard to find used. They last for about an hour on the 'Hide anyway.

Re: My new OBR

I just recently got a OBR with the 18" barrel, and my scope that I ordered from Euro Optics came in last week. It is a Night Force 3.5-15 F1 with the Horus H58 reticle. It wasn't cheap, but like everyone says, " buy once, cry once ".

Re: My new OBR

Agree with NF. I'm shooting an 18inch Les Baer Monolith with an NXS 5.5X22X50 dialed down to 5.5 for short range and of course higher for longer ranges. This combination works great for long and short range targets, hunting, plinking, whatever. I would not set up a "battle rifle" this way: for that the ACOG or an Eotech or Aimport (or lower mag wider ROV scope) would be better choices.

what offset mount are you using for the iron sights or are they offset sights?

Re: My new OBR

They are offset sights. They are the Dueck Defense RTS sights. They are pretty slick. You roll the gun and you can pick them up quick. They look exactly like A2 sights but are off 45degrees.

I just got my Troy sights in today and I was thinking getting offset mounts

How do you like the angled iron sights? easy transition? </div></div>

Easy and very fast to pick up. I can pick up the rear peep sight on the small opening very easily with both eyes open and the larger one even faster. I have a buddy that tried them and was shocked how quick he could pick them up and he was using the small peep sight. They are really nice and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for buis and is running a scope.

I don't think I have showed them to anyone and they didn't like them.

Re: My new OBR

If money is a problem pick up a Vortex PST in 2.5-10. I liked the first one I bought so much I bought a second. I now have on on my 700 sps tac and my 18" Larue Stealth.

I keep going on and off on either the 18 or 20 OBR, how does the 18 balance out? How fast does it come up? My fear is the 20 will be allot like the 20" AR's while nice their heavy, and not as fast as a carbine. Most of my shooting will be 100-600 yards with a a few over that. We have some wide open spaces here to shoot and since I have enough 16 AR's, if I'm going big, I'm going to get it for the longer ranges.

Ordering them on the next paycheck! So did you set your scope zero at 100, then the irons to 25?

My 18inch balances out and I can snap it up really quickly. I am also not a little guy but I like the 18 a lot. I don't think you will go wrong either way though.

The scope was zeroed at 100 and I did the irons at 50.
