Here is the problem with the 50, besides the obvious cost related issues.
1. It's not too accurate ????? really?? Are you comming to this conclusion based off of the M107 platform? Have you shot a Serbu, AR-50, EDM Windrunner, McBros?? Are those not accurate??
2. Most ranges don't allow them True!
3. The weapon is heavy Be a man! Its not that heavy and if your too big a pansy to lift one up to load into your vehicle or carry then maybe you need to start doing some PT. If you are really worried Mark Serbu makes a super shorty which is rather light for a fifty!
4. It really doesn't make you a better shooter. Shooting is shooting and any shooting makes you better as long as your aren't doing some funky weird crap! Also shooting long range is challenging regardless of caliber! They all require fundamental skills!
Spending big bucks on a weapon system you might not be able to utilize, weather it be skill level or just the availability of range, is a common theme I see very often. So think about it hard before putting big bucks on it

OK
I wouldn't say "just a novelty" there are plenty of long range shooters who are extremely proficient with the big fifty.
Oh yeah, RLTW and Currahee!!!
