Well I am finally getting my rifle set up so I can start working on improving my long range game. I call it the lego build since there is not real gunsmithing going on with this build for the time being as I am using the factory 700 sps varmint barreled action with parts about anyone can put on. A little back ground on the rifle, it started life as a Dicks special sps var adl, I then converted it to bdl and through it in a cheap hogue sps tac stock, and upgraded optics to a Vortex Crossfire 2 6-18x44 with vortex rings and EGW 20 moa 1 piece base and tuned the factory xmark trigger. I am hoping to eventually reach out to 1k yards with this setup but with 600-800 yards being the usual longer distance shots. Let me know if there may be some things I have overlooked or may need to consider with my current/future setup.

Now getting the rifle up to it's current state:

Factory 26" 1:12 twist varmint barreled action
EGW tactical bolt knob
Timney trigger set to 1.5 lbs
Bell and Carlson M40 stock
EGW 20 moa 1 piece base

Waiting for arrival is SWFA 16x mil/mil optic and SWFA low rings.

Future plans are: Harris bipod, some form or bubble level/anti-cant device, and bedding job.

you should be good to go. I use the exact same rifle and taken it to 1k. only changes was the trigger, no stock and chopped barrel to 18in. last time out I used 155 sierras and 178 hpbt.

Dang, 18" barrel is short. I've been primarily shooting 175gr PPU match as I have not gotten into reloading yet(hopefully soon though) but recently picked up some 168gr hpbt nosler match that I'm going to try out.

Damn...I was looking forward to seeing some cool pics of an ingenious 'Lego' build. LOL

Far from ingenious. But happy now? lol

Optic and rings are on the truck to be delivered sometime this afternoon.

ya the 18 in is short ive lost 300fps compared to a 26in barrel. I originally built it as a nice light weight hunting rig, but I never seem to make it far enough out of shotgun zone. if your not a member already check out Youngs longshot.com just north west of fort wayne. Its a really nice 1k range. no events members only. range only closes at dark open year round.

I may have to check that place out. Unfortunately it is a bit of a ways from me. Right now the closest 1k public range is Camp Atturbury. There are a couple private 1k ranges that are local that I am trying to gain access to.

Got the optic and put it on. Really like the milquad reticle over the BDC I had previously. Hoping it won't be to difficult to get to looking at adjustments in mils instead of moa.

nothing to get used to really...i have 3 different model swfa's in mil/mil...if ur impact is 2 of the diamonds left, hold or dial 2 to the right, same with up and down...there is a reticle diagram on swfa's website that tells u all the sub-tensions or every marking, i find the mil quad reticle extremely easy to use...really basic but effective and not to overwhelming...ranging is where the different math starts
