Re: My Remington 700 SPS Tactical.

You know, for all the thousands of dollars i have spent on custom rifles and shooting equipment there is something i miss about my first long range rifle. They are light weight, compact, and the most accurate out of the box rifle i have ever owned. I used to shoot .3's and .4's with 168GMM with mine right out of the box. And it weighed only 7.5lbs. Nice rifle, enjoy it.

PS. pick up a different scope!

Re: My Remington 700 SPS Tactical.

This is my SPS-T so far. It has a Modified Varmint Bolt knob from Keith at AZ Precision, HS Precision take off stock from a 700 VS, Leoupld MK4 base, PRW Rings and Leupold Mark2 3-9x40 w/Mildot.

Now, really considering getting a Seekins 20MOA base and Low Rings to mount a Leupold Mk4 3.5-10x40 M1 w/TMR. Most likely going to get a Tacops MultiCam stock pack. She will definitely get a Duracoat bath once I'm done with my deployement.

Re: My Remington 700 SPS Tactical.

To be honest I love the Hogue stock (aside from touching the barrel). I love the way it feels, balances the rifle well, could probably take one heck of a pounding. One of the biggest reason I went with the HS Stock is so I can DuraCoat it.

Re: My Remington 700 SPS Tactical.

Good Doctor, what can did you go with? And what thread pitch did you have your barrel turned to? Are you going direct connect or quick disconnect with a flash hider/suppressor?

Re: My Remington 700 SPS Tactical.

The can is a AAC 762-SD with the muzzle brake mount. I sent the gun to Tornado Technologies and the threaded the barrel as well as turning it so that the ports in the brake were perpendicular to the ground. I put about 100 rounds through it last weekend and it is the sweetest shooting gun that I have. The thread pitch is 5/8X24

Re: My Remington 700 SPS Tactical.

Good Doctor, Nice, same thread pitch as the AR 308s. See I'm torn right now about getting a can when I get back cuz, cans aren't allowed to be used for hunting in WY, so I would end up using it on the M1A for coyotes, but want to adatablily to go to other guns. Still kicking around the idea.

The 762-SD is a great can. The M1A is notoriously tricky to suppress due to the non adjustable gas system. Do your homework and you will end up happy with your purchase.

Get home safe!

Re: My Remington 700 SPS Tactical.

Here is a picture at the range today with my new IOR 4-14X50 ill attached. this is a great setup and I was hitting 10" steel at 300 yards without any difficulty. I don't think I missed one all afternoon.

Re: My Remington 700 SPS Tactical.

Like those SPS Ts.
I recently picked up an STS T. I was very impressed with it from the start. For the money and the weight it seems to be a great rifle. I wanted something M24-lite, and I think I'm getting to that point.
I put Badger rings and 20MOA base on it with a SS 3-9x42 FFP, and I'm having the barrel threaded for a Vortex with the intention of a can down the road. Badger bolt knob is going on there as well, and I've got the stock at CDI having their DBM kit put in. Should have all the parts back late this week.
For a bolt gun, I think this is just about the best value I've ever gotten on a stock rifle. Simply fantastic.

Re: My Remington 700 SPS Tactical.

I, also, like the SPS Tactical. Previously I had a Rock River LAR-8 which was fantastic, but when I decided to suppress I was the quiet action of a bolt and freedom of using any load I wanted and wouldn't care about cycling an action. (Or cleaning a lot and all the other issues of suppressing a gas gun.)

So I got an SPS Tactical, got it threaded. It was pretty accurate.

I added a Manners stock, skim bedded, and use a Leupold Mark4. And a Gemteck Sandstorm suppressor.

it is the bees knees. I need to go back to a formal range and see what it did to my groups. So far I've only shot with the new stock and can at the pumkin shoot a month ago.

Re: My Remington 700 SPS Tactical.

My next upgrade will be a new stock, bottom metal, and magazine of some type. A simple upgrade that I did was to purchase the Hogue over molded stock with the "full" block. The aluminum is imbedded from the rear lug to the tip of the for-end which makes it much more stiff. You can get one of these on for about $275 on Brownell's

Re: My Remington 700 SPS Tactical.

anyone know any good muzzle breaks to throw on a stock sps tactical in .308? im looking at the clamp on ones (would prefer no threading) cant put a can on it cuz i live in Canada making that very illegal.. Thanks guys. this is my first post.

ETA:
I've got the work pretty much done on mine, but I haven't had a chance to get an updated pic of it. Too many 12 to 14 hour shifts in the last week.

The only option that I have been able to find is from Roedale Precision.

They have a group buy going on, but don't know if it applies to Canada or not.

Re: My Remington 700 SPS Tactical.

The SPS T as it currently is.

Added a Triad/Eagle Large Stock Pack, Badger bolt knob, Harris S pod with Podlock and Tank's Speed Knob, an SEI Vortex, CDI DBM kit for AICS mags, SS 3-9x42 FFP, Badger rings and Badger 20 MOA base.

The trigger and safety are SS. This is not the stock trigger. When I had the rifle shipped off for the work it was not packed properly. The trigger broke, and I had to come up with a replacement. So I got a 5R takeoff trigger. This is temporary until I get the trigger I actually want on here.

The Vortex. Had this put on pretty much as a thread protector. I intend to put a HVT can on here in the next few months.

Accuracy is very good, and if you change the stock, you'll have a rifle you can have lots of fun with.
