N.J. Governor “smilin’“ Phil Murphy and his vision for ammunition restrictions

In his January 15th State of the State lecture, “smilin” Phil Murphy laid out his grand, stereotypical leftist scheme to further punish responsible gun owners. His leftist, liberal agenda has already imposed a 10 round magazine limit (which overnight made existing, legal, 10+ round magazines illegal), but it seems he now wants to impose a California-like restriction, or worse, on ammunition purchases.

From his January 15th diatribe:

"Last year, we enacted seven new common-sense gun safety laws which returned us to our rightful place as a national leader. Let’s take additional steps this year to close remaining loopholes -- to make it easier for prosecutors and police to keep illegal guns off our streets, regulate and track ammunition sales, and assist community-based organizations in implementing coordinated, evidence-based, violence-intervention strategies. Let’s work together to get this done."

His “common sense” gun restrictions were not at all “common sense” but just a reflection of the typical uninformed liberal / leftist agenda.

I’m not really active on NJ firearms forums but I do understand that the “large capacity mag ban” recently enacted (mags greater than 10 rounds), was an abject failure if the State expected people to surrender property they purchased lawfully. Otherwise, there is an expectation that any attempt by the state to impose such a California style ammunition restriction will be challenged in court.

AJ, not sure when you escaped NJ, but anti gun laws are kept from affecting FUDDs for a reason. That’s why the 50 caliber law never passes in NJ. Because it would knock out the muzzleloader. I’ve seen worthless FUDDs vote down pro 2A programs in my local club in PA, because they involved ARs. It’s a multi-sided war for the true pro gun guys in NJ.

Ran into plenty of these before, both on Web forums and shooting ranges. Some of them will actually tell you, with self-assured authority, that the 2nd Amendment was written for hunters only, that they will obediently turn in their rifles as soon as the order comes because "more supermarkets moving into formerly wooded areas means that hunting is no longer necessary", and that we should "find another sport or hobby" once the guns are gone.

These people are even more detrimental to the 2nd Amendment than the statists. They were the MOST vocal ones crying and screaming in support of the semiautomatic rifle bans, and I believe the phrase "you don't need 30 rounds to hunt deer" came from a Fudd. Of course, these self centered idiots only squawk like that so they can show the statists that they are on their side so their Fudd guns would not get touched. They are not just ignorant.........they will throw real gunnies under the bus just to show the statists how obedient they are.

I grew up there and escaped at 18. Never looked back. Still have some pro-gun family there and shot in a variety of competitive sports as a child. People here are right. There is such an absence of gun culture that even in the gun culture there is no spirit of resistance. My trap and skeet club was fuds. As long as they could keep their semi auto 12ga all was OK. My family that does own handguns and an AR cant talk about it with anyone (not even other family), so they dont hear about all the laws going through. Its not big news there. I keep asking them if they are complying and they just dont know these measures are being passed. Its not even on their radar. I ended up back there at work for a year as an adult and know how it is- I would have lost my job if they found out my affinity for firearms so its just something I had to keep to myself with all but a few very very close friends. Someone heard one of my neighbors owned an AR- called the cops-got raided and was found to have felony sized 30 round mags and is currently in prison. Its good motivation to keep your thoughts to yourself.

Its also a communist police state so a lot of free minded attitudes have been squashed or those that place a premium on it have left. A story I tell to illustrate- my sister had an engagement party in a restaurant downtown in a very upscale town- right on main street. Twice during it a police car with lights on went by. Both times the entire restaurant went silent, froze and the people slouched in fear. These are upstanding, law abiding, extremely productive members of society cowing in fear- not thugs who have something to hide. The sight of it still shocks me to this day. Combine that with the militantly anti-gun police who really are always looking to ruin your life over any small infraction they can possibly find and they have effectively stamped it out. The cops there are anti-citizen not just anti-gun. I was there over Christmas to see family and went to a movie. During the trailer at the beginning there was a 3 minute clip about how to properly comply with the police and surrender to them in a fashion that would keep you and them safe and you respectful. I about fell out of my seat. No one around me thought that was strange.

Your write-up pretty much sums up the state of affairs in the Garden State. Even among the other members of the gun ban club, New Jersey is quite special.

The article below is a repost that I had first made here on another thread. It was major news on the trad forums when it broke out back in 2015. Basically there was a random traffic stop in south NJ and a 72 year old retired schoolteacher was found to have a museum grade, UNLOADED flintlock pistol in the glove compartment. And for that, he had been charged with felony criminal possession and faced up to 10 years in prison. The man's lawyers managed to get it cleared up but it involved a circus of a legal battle.

As far as I am aware of, New Jersey is one of the only places in the US where black powder firearms and guns that do not fire fixed ammunition are still considered modern firearms and all laws pertaining to them apply.

I fix and rebuild single action revolvers and a while back I had acquired a jumble of parts at a very budget price which I built into two Colt Model 1860 Army .44 caliber percussion revolvers. One of them was given "target grade" treatment and had a hair trigger for increased accuracy. Offered them for sale on a trad site and a guy from NJ wanted to buy them. Told me that I had to ship them to his FFL dealer. I was confused at first because this was the first time that I heard that a pre-1898 non-cartridge weapon had to be sent to a FFL. Did a lookup and sure enough.........New Jersey for ya'. Anyways, did the sale successfully but it left me feeling funny.

I really feel sorry for any true, freedom loving gun enthusiasts in that state. And the saddest part, like you mentioned, is that it is a tyranny of the majority. The big city statists that passed all that fuckery had the rural Fudds to back them up.

There is a reason, for years now, when people had asked me for advice on what calibers to get / stockpile, I ALWAYS recommended getting the most popular and standard issued calibers in current LE and military use...

as a resident of NJ, basically, the way I see it, we are already a lost cause. We have a lot of shitbag cities that are chocked full of leftists. Couple that with the rural areas that are also becoming more and more infested with left scum. This place has really gone to the dogs. AND Even when we did have a "republican" gov in Chris Christie he did little to repeal the previous gun Laws enacted by the previous scum governors. He did shoot down the 50 cal ban but as someone pointed out earlier that was probably more for the muzzle loaders rather the barett guys. The people here ive in Lala land. There are just too many idiots that have adopted and now believe passionly that guns are bad and guns are a major reason for "needless" violence. Sadly, there are just too few in NJ that can turn the tide. Without a major awaking, at this point, it is best just to let NJ die. Problem is most of NJ gun owners are fudds. All they own are maybe a shotgun for hunting since you cant hunt with a rifle there or they may own a glock but it stays locked up in a case somewhere in the back of the closet collecting dust.

NJ along with many other states are a no win zone for the 2nd amendment. The political system there doesnt allow it. Both republicans and democrats both fo full retard tk see who can out do each other.
