Navy Seal or is he?

Hello every one hope all is well. So my GF's uncle is claming to be a US Navy Seal Sniper from the Vietnam war. Not that I don't believe him but he just don't fit the bill.

If there is a way 2 find this info out please PM me for his info.

Thanks for the help. I hope his personal claim of Valor is truthful but even his family members are questioning it. I didn't ask him what his class number is or his dates of service were. All I know is that he is saying he served during the Vietnam war as above.

Those who say, "perhaps hold your fire", have a point, but personally, I have pulled that trigger twice, both were phony ass wannabes, and both folded like the shitheads they are.
Contact Socnet, or the Chief mentioned above. Submit that info, and wait a short bit. They have access to the class files.
In the case of one here locally, he appeared in the paper as the new county economic development person, and claimed to be a SEAL. I sent his name in to Socnet, and within hours proved him to be a phony who hadn't even served. Socnet contacted our County Commissioners, and provided the information. Our Commissioner is a retired Marine. It was not pretty.
The other had convoluted and detailed claims of being a Ranger, and on the FBI protected witness program (an immediate red flag, and phonier than an 3 dollar bill), and a medically retired firefighter from a large city. He was BSing a young lady who is the daughter of a friend of mine. She was all starry-eyed. Right: phony on all 3 points.
These people are filthier than a dogshit soiled shoe sole. They deserve NO mercy, no quarter.
If socnet says he is legit, then drop it. They won't reveal anything or that you inquired.

Thanks guys! I never called it BS all I am saying is that there have been ALOT of claims from him and most real operators don't talk the way he does. If he is the real deal them he is the real deal. No harm no foul. This is mainly for my GF's personal info and her family's.

I have a similar situation. My aunts new husband is claiming to be a Marine Sniper , which I think is slap in the face to the real Marines that made it though to become a USMC Sniper. Is there a way that I can prove he is a phony and a liar. It just makes me sick hearing him tell his stories about all his confirmed kills. And by the way he was in the Marine Core for 3 years.

I believe the SEALS actually became 'SEALS' for Vietnam. I think the navy had some rudimentary form of them before then but they did mostly "sea"

I'm pretty sure that they were called UDT (under water demolition teams) in 'nam and didn't become SEALs until sometime later but I might have that mixed up with WWII or Korea.

My father in law exhibited very un-masculine traits not characteristic of a seal. I submitted a records request to the national archives and found out he was a coasty. Then I called him out at the last family get together... he got upset and left. But he felt like the douche bag that he was. I saw the look in his eyes.

An inquiry with the national archives takes about 6 months, but it can be oh so worth it.

US Navy SEALs were founded in 1962. Here is the phone number for the Quarter Deck at NAB Coronado (760) 725- 1288. Ask for the SEAL registry. You can give the sailors name and service number, and they will verify a persons service on a SEAL Team. Some banter for those that have an interest: Jesse Ventura graduated from BUDs class 58, assigned to UDT12 and reserve SEAL Team One. He did not serve in a combat role in Viet Nam, was stationed in Subic Bay PI. My buddy Ray "Slim" W was a plank holder on Team One and served in the Phoenix Program. Lost all his fingers and both thumbs nearly freezing to death at his ranch in Hanksville a few winters ago. Most guys would have just died, not Slim. Bart "Boomer" J was also an original chingo. Any senior enlisted SEAL that lets an SF combat diver sign for a Draeger and go swimming with the teams is alright in my book. He even let me dive the tower. Jeff at Trident did 30 years on the teams and is still serving as a civilian. The old school SEALs walked the walk and talked the talk. The new guys are pretty cool cats also. Glen D who was just last week killed in Libya was a great guy, was a hard core Snowbird powder hound, and all around good friend to many people. He died a hero and will be missed. Centurion, T3, Xi, all SEAL owned and operated businesses. Check them out if you have an interest.

I personally don't know any SEALS, but I know a lot of Recon Marines and MARSOC guys.

When talking to them you would have no idea they were and are SF.

When my best friend got killed a lot of the guys talked about what he did and his accomplishments, stuff he just blew off like it was no big deal. At the funeral I made a comment to one of his team mates, I said "Dan never talked about the schools he completed, or about the awards he received.". His buddy said "no SF guys do, it's the ones who do brag and talk that you need to be wary of."

Nah, they were called SEALS in Vietnam. Never seen any over there but in my class at Benning's jump school in '66 we had SEALS,

Suckers climbed the 250 Tower during the night and hung a flag made out of a bed sheet that said "SEALS" then had to do a bunch of extra PT.

They were still called SEALS in '74-75. I was in the AK NG's 38th SF Company. We had a joint (training) operation with some SEALS.

Afterwards they showed us some BS propaganda film about SEAL training. When the film was over the head SEAL, (don't remember if he was a chief or what) asked, "Well, what do you think?"

I was younger then and not known for keeping my mouth shut so I says; "Good thing they got rid of the draft cause you guys hadn't been in the service yet".

After that comment I found out the SEALS weren't that tuff, at least they couldn't catch me. I was younger back then and could run, now I'm 65, got a bad ticker and copd, so I learned to keep my mouth shut cause I can't run.

I usually question a lot of people who tell me they served not only in Viet Nam, but in the Marines and Army as well. If they mention elite forces, all the more I ask about what and where.
The looks, movements, and behaviors usually are a good tell, but sometimes that's not enough. During the last coupl eyears I have threatened four ass whoopings if the asshole didn't stop talking shit and shut the fuck up. Best part is what the rest of teh students do when they find out...cold shoulder silent treatment doesn't even fit.
The latest was a 1LT who wore a long tab, claimed to have served at a certain base in A-Stan during of all times OEF VII. When it came up that one, he didn;t rate the long tab, and two, he was never on that small box, I asked him who so and so was. he had no clue, and the best part is that if you were anywhere near that little box, you knew so and so because he was the guy on the roof smoking cigars all the time(that would be how we met and enjoyed a certain brand of coffee syrup).
Last I heard this pne was not only swapped to the 'local command' up here at Ft C, but he was also being investigated for AWOL for not being in class when he was supposed to. The best part though? One professor declared his class a failure thus preventing his graduation and obtaining his degree. Oh wait, it gets even better. Now he gets to pay back the Army or whoever for ALL college expenses. I think he;s pretty much done

I worked with an arrogant pipefitter this year who kept throwing out his past in "special weapons" in the Navy working as a fitter on "nukes" and "50cal sniper rifles". He even claimed he had to call into the DoD for permission to leave the state everytime because of his security clearance. I let this shit go until he told his bullshit stories to a homeowner who was a combat vet missing his right arm. I mentioned there are resources available to verify his claims but he just said everything was classified. Ding, ding! We have a liar.

Had a Senior Chief cut his own stomach open because he got passed over for Master Chief(selected then pulled by his skipper) etc etc.

We all have a need for approval, if we didnt these boards would not exist. Guys would not post pics of their rifles and groups and all that. Now some folks take it to the extreme and create lies to fit in, some tell these lies so long that they start to believe them as truth. It sickens me to listen to a pathological liar, and no I do not think it is right for this guy to BS his family.

As a leader I have always learned to praise in public and punish in private. If this guy only bragged to a close network of people, then why humiliate in front of the whole world. If he made these claims to the public, then he is responsible to the public.

It is just the way I think and the way I led. We all can not think the same as there would be no balance. In the end it is up to OP to decide what to do.

I have found that he more bs someone blurts out loud, the more fake they are.
Real operators who have "been there, done that" don't talk about it.
Trying to get them to talk about their experience is often like pulling teeth.

We've got one of those in my family. I was pretty impressed by his stories as a kid, until another familey member pulled me outside at a reunion. Less impressed with the wannabee after our little discussion, and way more impressed with they guy who told me where wannabee got his stories.
My dad. Two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star; the Bronze Star has an add-on that basically means he earned it twice; he was a corpsman in Korea.
The family lets wannabee ramble, we all know he's lying. He has to know this too. I don't get it. I've never served, physically unable to due to getting hit by cars twice in my late teens, but I've never claimed to either. It just bugs the crap out of me when people who never even served..... gah.
Agree with the poster above, "Outing" should be a widespread hobby.

My points are:

--Provided OP the resource to verify if the guy in question is legit or not. One that does a weekly online VLOG on calling scumbags out in front of actual Teams.

-- Pathological Liars make me sick, I see them at every American Legion or at the gun shows. Those who steal Valor are the worst scum.

-- Having served and retired as a US Navy Hospital Corpsman and have seen first hand the after effects of suicide, some for deep mental issues, others for trivial girlfriend problems. It is one thing to read about it and another to pick up the pieces. In a suicide there are ALWAYS more than one victim.

-- My concern is not for the scumbag who is stealing valor, it is for OP and if he is fine with potentially having blood on his hands by outing someone on the whole internet. Do you think the family will be inviting OP over to Christmas dinner to celebrate the guy who outed their family member and embarrassed the whole family. If you read my posts you will see that my focus is OP and his decision to proceed.

Years ago living in San Diego I had a guy ask me if I was a SEAL, I informed him no, he kept saying it is cool, he was Navy saying I could tell him. NO REALLY I AM NOT IN THE MILITARY! What made him think I was a SEAL? I lifted weights a lot and ran on the beach, no clue, but I get accused of being a cop, border patrol, military (they ask for ID for Military Discount). I never, ever lie about this, it is just so wrong on so many levels. I get disgusted when I see that video of the guy claiming to be all that...

I've worked for a man that was Army Spec Ops in Vietnam, and hunted with a Marine RECON in Alaska (when I lived there), those men went through hell, earned something big. I wanted to be direct as possible since being in a family who had a POW as a relative, it is true assbaggery to say you are something, and not that remotely.

Seeing my sister's marriage fall apart due to some PTSD, I do not get mad at my brother in law either, my mom's cousin when he came back from Vietnam got divorced, Marine. Nobody in my family judges my now ex brother in law, or my mom's cousin... It took him years to get over what happened in Vietnam, not like he was homeless or anything, just he had his own demons to destroy. He eventually did, and is someone I deeply admire, he goes to Vietnam still to help orphans there.

I understand Freedom of Speech allows these turdballs to say this, but it should also be legal for people to punch them square in the ear hole when they brag.
